Girl 6 Soundtrack

So... I must have been about 14, and absolutely obsessed with Prince, but I had no money, no internet, and I was living in the middle of nowhere in the NorthEast with no access to the Bootleg Wonderland that was Camden Market. Don't think I even had a comprehensive discography, for goodness' sake! Basically I would go straight to the Prince section of any record store I passed and try to find something new.

.

So I came across this CD by accident - presumably in a branch of Woolworth's - and was absolutely delighted to find all these tracks that I'd not heard before:

.

She Spoke 2 Me - Loved the fresh, positive sound of it.

Pink Cashmere - still one of my favourites.

Count The Days - I wasn't sure about this one at first (didn't like Sonny T's voice), but it opened me up to the NPG discography and Exodus for the first time.

The Screams Of Passion - Nowhere near my favourite track by The Family, but again - it was the first track I'd heard from this SO BLOODY HARD TO FIND album.

Nasty Girl - So much fun in one track. And great for shocking my non-Prince-fan friends

Erotic City - I coudnt' afford The Hits/The B Sides and there were never any singles to be found up in Hartlepool, so this was an absolute gem.

How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore - when I (much later) found out this song was so old, I was knocked out. Sounded so fresh! When everyone started raving about Alisha Keys' über-bland cover, I was livid!

Don't Talk 2 Strangers - Sickly sweet looking back on it now, but back at the time I loved that chord sequence. Made me feel all cozy.

Girl 6 - yeah, anyway.

.

So yeah, did anybody else get an intro to some off-the-beaten-track songs through this?

thank u 4 a funky time

I already had all the songs except for the title track but it was still nice to have all those songs on one CD in good quality.

I had never heard "The Cross" when this came out so I'll never forget that... A fantastic collection of songs.. Just recently hunted down the double vinyl set of this, can't wait to play it 😀

Yes, of course - I'd not got hold of SOTT yet, so this was another mindblowing new one for me.

"Adore" sounds better on the soundtrack than it does on the album .I love the title track "Girl 6" though
There's Joy in repetition
