. P stopped many people from covering his songs, but he let this one slip by. Alicia appeared to have talent, but her touching this song has always rubbed me the wrong way. The production on the studio version was outdated the year it came out and her phrasing on this video is all kinds of wrong. All those papa's instead of mama is annoying as well. It's a quintessential Prince song, if you cover it, change it completely or don't even bother. . [Edited 6/8/16 14:53pm]

It always bothers me people changing the lyrics to fit the gender. There's just no need. We know the original, we get it, we get the feeling of it, don't change it cause it kinda disrupts the flow.

I feel the same way. There is a sense of desperation and insecurity in Prince's version that is not present in her version.
