Prince's Saddest Album? Just put on AOA for the first time in awhile.
"Way Back Home" just got me crying as well as "Affirmations."
I ALWAYS broke up at "Way Back Home" but now.....
What do you think? |

Those might be seen as sad by you.
However, I was going more with the crying-sort-of-thing.
I never quite understood the hate for Jughead.
Purple and Gold was an interesting experiment.
The New Master well.... |

I always felt that the One Nite Alone album is sad. How'm I gonna fill this empty room... |

I think I would vote for Dirty Mind. When U Mere Mine and Gotta Broken Heart are obvious examples, but throughout the whole album he has such vaulnerability in his voice, even while singing mostly empowering lyrics. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain. |

GET STUPID GET STUPID! The worst song of Prince's career. An epic piece of S-H-I-T. Recorded during the same session as "The Flow" and "Something Funky (This House Comes)."
If that song was in iTunes, I'd add a photo of an overflowing toilet for the album art.
It is rumored that the CIA played "Jughead" on repeat to torture suspected terrorists after 9/11. They stopped after several bled to death from their ears.

Oh it is BAD (not good) for sure and certainly ONE of the worst but surely not THE worst? That honour must go to Grafitti Bridge (the song)? 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything. |

The title is "Jughead"; like the Archie's Comic character it's MEANT to be stupid. It is exactly what it is. Anyway, that's not what this thread is about. |

Good question. I'm guessing the Bremer Trust put the smack down on that.

Well, it makes me sad. Out of all of the great songs in the vault -- especially from that time period -- he put that garbage on the record. I hope Fargnoli got PAID, because someone deserved to for putting us through that.

Nah... In hindsight Emancipation. The song with the baby's heart beat. He had so much hope and was so looking forward to that life, the love story of he and Mayte. To hear it now really makes me said. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick. |

Sex In The Summer.
If you want to really get sad, my vote is "Wasted Kisses."

Ugh, I still can't believe that some fans still think that Wasted Kisses is about his child. :smh:

Emancipation (disc 2) is a bit of a downer for me too, since the subject matter is so specific and personal. I also always associate The Vault: Old Friends For Sale with cloudy day listening.
If you will, so will I |

IMO Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic is a sad album, lot of the songs deal with his marriage to Mayte breaking up - seems odd when the album title sounds so jolly! also it has Everyday Is A Jehovah Party on it and that's depressing enough! |

look, in no way is "everyday" a good track, but it isn't as bad as everyone here says it is. I've been watching people trash it for years, but when it comes on my ipod I never skip it. It's kinda fun sometimes... How'm I gonna fill this empty room... |

i remember when rave came out, he was just getting back to being prince and clive davis was pumping the album. anyway, i was just finishing up my own very first album and just hearing how this man was still going strong after all those years was an inspiration, I took the poster in it and put it in front of my keyboard while i worked on songs. I can't say there are any albums of Prince's I dislike, a couple that i'm indifferent too, but I wouldn't even say I dislike them. |

It's kinda fun sometimes... I've always liked Everyday Is A Winding Road. I think some folks just rag on it because of Larry's chant, but I don't even mind that. My very first post on the org many moons ago was a Everyday Is A Winding Road appreciation thread. I got completely savaged for it, but I still maintain it's a cool track. |

One Night Alone. The whole era from Newpower Soul to 3121 seemed really rough for Prince. The music was totally uninspired and a lot of the lyrics had a sort of pleading desperation we hadn't seen since the Black Album. |

I must admit listening the album 'Prince' from 1979, there are a number of melancholic, lamenting songs such as It's Gonna be Lonely. The music can be quite sombre too. |

I believe there's a sort of sadness feeling and vibe throughout all his music, including the sexual oriented ones. |

Yeah, me too. Still can't listen to way Back Home and Affirmations on AOA without sobbing uncontrollable. Beautiful lyrics though. I sort of feel reassured that he's ok now when listening to them. "Where you are now is a place that doesn't require time.
That saying, you are completely safe." |

AOA...
Its an adult fully realized look back with regret and resolute lonliness that offers no hope for the future and quiet acceptance of that realization. Beautifully sad ...
