The Cure Pay Tribute to Prince.

I saw the Cure last night at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Great show! They did not play any Prince songs but Robert Smith played this purple guitar with the opening lyric from "Starfish and Coffee" on it! Many ways folks are finding to pay tribute.

What a very cool and subtle way to pay a tribute! Nice one!
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

You can pay tribute in many ways. You don't have to murder one of his songs like Ellie Goulding did.

Anyway love this tribute.

I love The Cure. Robert Smith is such a poet. I've been listening to The Cure (their more darker stuff from the early 80's) since Prince's transition. Strangely, it helps.

I just finished reading that lukewarm concert review in the Minneapolis City Pages and was just about to post that picture but you were faster than me. wink

The author does not even mention that opening line of Starfish and Coffee. He does mention that Robert Smith talked about the difficulty of playing a purple guitar there but....no mention of that line on the guitar. neutral

And the reviewer seems to complain about the length of the concert, and being a bit dull.

I know people who really enjoyed that concert.

Thank you! Actually I agree - I enjoyed it. I love it when artists put their own stamp on another song and do it well. Not just a repeat of the original. biggrin

StarTribune has better review

Wonder why he picked this lyric? Super cool though.

Saw Depeche Mode at Lollapalooza a few years ago. Hope to see The Cure-- finally-- in a couple of weeks. Check their tour dates if you're in the U.S.
