I think AOA has more emotional vulnerability from Prince than any other album. A few songs seem consistent with the lonely image that many of us have about his later years.

.

Sad not for content, but sad for the overall feeling of the album..."Come."

.

I just get a sad feeling because that album comes across as something Prince didn't care about. No lyric sheeet, "Contractual Obligation," rather short in length, uninspired black and white layout, the tombstone like dates on the cover...the whole album just conveys a feeling of sadness.

This is an underrated gem imo....it's surprisingly cohesive, and i agree very ...abrupt...like it was spit out...dire and dark

Oh, I agree it is a gem. It is one of my favorites. An incredible Prince album.

.

But it does convey to me a sadness. To be honest it was released with no buzz; no interest from anyone (music fans or media). Prince really was almost at the point of irrelevance (who talked about Prince at that time?), and it was just a quiet, sad release. The black and white also helped with that impression. "Man, what happened to this guy," I thought. Once so full of color and life and now he puts out a record even he says is not worth anything more than "contractual obligation."

.

But, boy, it is one hell of a kick ass album. I dare call it a masterpiece. Over all the years, I have probably listened to this album more than any other Prince album.

Fianlly someone said Come.

He was really depressed you can tell...and this was the time I noticed he lost significant weight compared to the Love Symbol album all the way until the Gold Album..he was really thin....he picked it back up on Emancipation though. Looked like he was eating right again.

As well...seeing him for the last time during movie night as Paisley he looked really thin again more than last year. Can tell he wasnt eating enough or something. I would say AOA because Way back Home is on there...just so heartbreaking now....but maybe Chaos and Disorder..you can tell he was mad and upset. I'll add The Vault to the collection. He wasnt being himself.

Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.
