I hate Lovesexy on cd-since it iw one track.

I learned to stop worrying and love the one track. For years it pissed me off because I couldn't make mixes - now I realize it should be listened to whole. Perfect for a 45 minute dog walk. No song merits skipping, "I Know" and "Glam Slam" being my least favorite on this one - still incredible, they make their follow-up tracks that much better.

Folks, psychologists tell us that there are two ways you can tell a person is lying:

1) they fail to make eye contact,

2) they say they like "Around The World In A Day"

.

That's scientific fact. Nothing more to say.

Or are you now going to argue against science and psychologists?

LOL. Funny how this psychologist adores ATWIAD. Have played it three times this week. Love Paisley Park, Condiiton of the Heart, The Ladder, and even Temptation, which is often dismissed ofr how bizarre it is at the end but man what a funky creative ride.

A) Re: "Magical Mystery Tour" It is on 12 inch vinyl that contains a number of songs, it is placed inside a cardboard sleeve with nice pictures....uhh, it's an album. What do you want to call it, a sculpture?

.

B) It is not my opinion that "Around The World In A Day" is a musical failure. It is a fact. Just like 2 + 2 = 4 is not my opinion but fact, it is a fact that "Around The World In A Day" is a musical failure. There is no arguing. Do you argue against 2 + 2 = 4?

Here's why it is a failure:

.

1) "Around The World..." did not live up to its predecessor "Purple Rain." That makes it a failure.

.

2) It is unlistenable from track 1 to the final track. Believe me, I've tried. It is impossible to do. If you can't even get through the album...it is obviously then a failure.

.

3) Did Prince tour for that album? No. He knew it was a failure. No one was going to buy tickets for the "Around The World In A Day Tour." (And that's ironic because that would have been a fantastic name for a world tour.) Think about it, for every album up to that one, he toured. But not this one. Why? because it was a failure.

.

4) It has "The Ladder" on it. That song instantly makes any album a failure. If "Sgt. Pepper's" had "The Ladder" on it, that album would be deeemed a failure. If "Frampton Comes Alive" had "The Ladder" on it, no one would have bought it. If "The Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack" had "The Ladder" on it, John Travolta would still be doing "Welcome Back Kotter."

.

5) Musically it is horrendous. Pretentious, overblown, bombastic nonsense. Just listen to that title track. My God, couldn't somebody have stopped Prince? Wasn't there anyone aroundd him with enough integrity to say, "Prince that is garbage. We can not release that song. It will make any album it is on a failure."

.

6) No one likes it. That makes it a failure. (And if you read my previous post, you'll see I recognized that anyone who says they do like it is a liar.)

.

.

A failure:

i couldn't disagree more but i would use everything in your post to describe my disgust with emancipation.

So from that am I right to conclude that you don't like ATWIAD
eek

Sorry I had to ask as it wasn't quite clear from your posts what your feelings on the album are? lol

Whatever...everything you say about the album is YOUR PERSONAL OPINION and absolutely nothing more!

There are plenty of albums Prince didn't tour behind and in fact once you get past the mid 90s most of Prince's tours were not actually behind any album, they were just tours with a predominant focus on hits (not exclusively). Prince didn't tour behind Come or C&D either but according to you they are masterpieces? Yes I know why too but if you use the not touring as an argument for why an album is a failure then apply it consistently!

You need to brush up on your Prince history too... Prince didn't tour behind ATWIAD because a) he had literally just finished the PR tour when it was released b) he didn't need to and c) he went straight into recording sessions for Parade and pre-production on UTCM.

Re "album" by your definition "The Hits The B Sides" is an album! It isn't it is a compilation. Same with MMT. It is not the result of specific recording sessions aimed at producing an album, it is a collection of songs taken from elsewhere.

oh and you conveniently ignore my point about Prince himself not being happy with Parade... Which just goes to show that even Prince, like you, had questionable personal taste!

As for the rest of what you say...I can't be bothered.

Well Cloreen doesn't lol

Cloreen is trolling and I fed it. Cloreen knows plenty of Prince fans love that album and likes to spark discussion by being deliberately controversial (there are plenty of other threads where Cloreen does the same...look at the "Mountains" one).

It is all about attention seeking. Cloreen (jokingly I hope) refers to psychologists but they would say that Cloreen is exhibiting classic narcissist behaviour by spouting personal opinion as unarguable fact.

"Xpectation"

"Around The World In A Day"

"Kamasutra"

"One Night Alone"

"C-Note"

"N.E.W.S."

..

These are not very good albums:

.

"For You"

"The Truth"

"Graffiti Bridge"

"Indigo Nights"

.

.

Just to balance things out, these are masterpiece albums:

.
"Dirty Mind"

"Purple Rain"

"Parade"

"Sign O' The Times"

"Lovesexy"

"Come"

"Chaos And Disorder"

Out of curiousity, where would you put "1999"?

The ones I find almost unlistenable are Emancipation, 20Ten, MPLSound, AOA and Rave. Apart from a couple of tracks on each I don't rate Come, Plectrumelectrum, and 3121. Haven't heard the H&R albums so can't comment on those.

LOL. Even the TIDAL download flac was a single track. mad

Solution:

  1. Rip CD to WAV
  2. Download Audacity (http://www.audacityteam.org/)
  3. File...Open wav file
  4. Set Track Labels at start of each song
  5. File...Export Multiple to MP3
  6. Jam!

If I go to TIDAL and follow your instructions I can get seperate tracks???

Absolutely! With Audacity, you can open and edit just about any music format. If you don't mind the extra $$, I would recomment buying the FLAC format from Tidal, since it's lossless. You could certainly buy and edit the MP3 versions, but those are lossy, and thus once you export (i.e. step 5), you'd be re-lossing an already lossy source. (If that makes any sense...lol)

When I bought it when it first came out I was very impresssed by the new sound, new direction Prince moved into. It sure didn't sound like "Controversy." Cool. This guy Prince really is something special. But over time, I don't play the album much. Many of the songs are waaaay too long. Makes the album overblown and a bit pompous. Best track is "Critics Love You In New York." Good song. Rest of the album doesn't hold up. I do love the Linn Drum sound; that never ages. But overall the "1999" album is more noteworthy for the boost it put into Prince's career than for the actual quality of the album. It's good, but it is a mid to low level Prince release.

This is exactly why I make edit versions of many of his songs. Whether it's removing Tony M or trimming away the bloat, it allows for a better listening exprience. I keep the originals so I can always cue those up when I want. But usually the edits are in the regular playlists. Win.

Dude, just download GOLDWAVE. It is far easier than Audacity. Takes about five minutes to figure the whole thing out. User friendly. And it's a lot of fun. You can take any song and mess with it so much. You can boost the bass, shorten the song, move the chorus to the front...anything you want to do. I love the feature that allows you to remove the vocals from songs.

.

I converted LOVESEXY into separate tracks using GOLDWAVE.

I am always monkeying with my favorite songs (or monkeying with my own) and I use GOLDWAVE. I downloaded AUDACITY once and found it to be a bit complex. I didn't really want to take the time to learn it all. GOLDWAVE is kind of simple. Figure out what you need and how to do it in a matter of minutes.

.

New tech people might find GOLDWAVE to be prehistoric. It's been around a while (updated frequently, though). For me it is handy as hell. Put LOVESEXY in it and started chopping it up into proper song sequence rather than that one long sequence.
