I hate to burst anyones bubble, and I, also thing the Prince Online Museum is kick ass and Sam Jennings should be applauded for doing this, but, in some way, I have always had my own Prince online museum in a way by using this site:

http://archive.org/web/web.php

The Wayback Machine!!!

Admittedly though there were some aspects and sections of certain sites that couldnt be accessed, like u can on the Prince Online Museum, but overall it was a good tool to use to access old and archived websites!!

How are your bursting anyones bubble? The wayback machine is not news to most people lol

There is no comparison to that and what Sam has put together.

Exactly. It's nothing like the wayback machine.

Sam has put everything about the history of Prince's online presence together in one place. He even gives the backstory of how each project happened, who was involved, etc.

And the best part is that he managed to preserve a good amount of the content. It's a great rememberance. A few of us shared some bits and pieces from the sites but I'm glad that he was able to put it all together. cool

Thats why now I DO applaud what Sam has done because you can do so much more stuff on all the sites on the Prince Online Museum that u just CANNOT do on any of the sites on the Wayback Machine!! In fact you cant access the Love4OneAnother site on the Wayback Machine now!!

Its just that the Wayback Machine was a good memory inducing tool to use at the time BEFORE the Prince Online Museum opened up!!

I admit it: I got a little misty when the player came up out of the pool in the Reflection Room. touched

Thank U Sam!

There was a nice symmetry to seeing the NPGMC resurrected 10 years to the day it was closed down suddenly (due to a copyright claim by Nature Publishing Group and possibly due to the speculation in the forums over his marriage to Mani / and or to the fan response to the early version of Feel Better, Feel Good, Feel Wonderful as I recall).

Anyhow, I must say i am amazed at how timeless it felt going back there (NPGMC), it's like no time has elapsed at all. It's also a testament to the good design. Quite fittingly I ended up clicking on a section where the phrase 'Time is a Trick' came up, how timely! It certainly felt that way looking around, it's brought back a lot of memories but was also slightly eerie now that he's not here.

It's like the lights are on but nobody is home.

Although for some reason having these sites back up it feels as if he's watching over somehow. It was strange to go into the Knowledge Room and find all the JW Bible references and also copies of many essays he wrote around that time on the Death of Cool, Consolidation etc, these are still as relevant now as they were then, perhaps even more so.

I will explore more soon but does feel a little strange now he's not here physically (although as he said There's Others Here With Us), although it feels like a part of him lives on there just like his music.

this is lovely. i didn't get into "life online" until 1999/2000 so the older stuff was cool to see. it does make me a bit wistful.

I too spent hours enjoying this site. This brought back so many memories and time stood still for me as I went thru this history I went thru my own. This is history interactive history. My grandma who lived to be 101 told me what the world was like back in the day, her day, how fast the world changes. When cell phones came out it was amazing than the World Wide Web... Computers than dial,up WOW! PRince was aware of this and keep up with the sign o the times. Thank you for this labor of love Sam and all involved. Gotta go get back to my puzzle board..lol

There were videos in the NPG sites that I have not seen since the site was active.

I also got a kick out of the small print. This site is best viewed using Netscape or Explorer 5

Awesome job.

Didn't he also have webpages for "The Gold Experience" and "Chaos & Disorder"? Not websites as we know them, I don't think either was more than an online flyer for the album.

Warner Bros had a Choas and Disorder website with Dinner with Delores streamed.

I do not recall any web site for Gold.

This was also the source of the Chaos & Disorder screen saver?

I can't remember much about the Gold site. It must have been printed on one of the album booklets or single sleeves though?

This is a fine project and especially so because it engages students from the #yeswecode program. (And if I misread that, the site should bring in those students as interns, ahem. smile

The one interview of the 2013 site, I loved the story where the engineer was working in a cold room at PP and Prince went and got him a space heater from upstairs.

PP has to be a bear to heat in winter in Minnesota. Minneapolis in January is brutal cold. Double digit subzero and winds--and snow. It is a test of fortitude. PP was built in the '80's and who knows if its heating system was updated, but it must have had multiple furnaces and AC units. Climate control is an issue with electronics, tapes, vinyl etc.

But in 2013, it was cold. There were space heaters and Prince went and got one for this engineer so he wouldn't be so cold. Sweet.
