I'd say after seeing a few interviews now that I've missed over the past few years. What Morris said a long time ago, Prince is the same as he was when he was a kid is making a lot sense now, in context.

Wow the lyric's ... I never listened to the song.... and I think i never will....

but P just had that way of singing things that seemed to.... at some point ... come to past..

I hear ya then, jon1967 and leadline. However, he was alone when he died.

He is just saying above all else, he wanted to be left alone, and he would rather be gone if he couldn't be, however now he has to let that go, and let people in, and go with the flow.

It's a song of a personal awakening where he realizes it's ok to let people in, it's ok to show everyone who you are, etc. It has absolutely no correlation, relation, comparison or parallel with what happened to him in April.
