What do you think Prince was the GOAT of? Still thinking legacy for Prince and no doubt he will be celebrated by future generations for many reasons. But when you have somebody with as many talents as Prince had, you wonder how many he could have been the greatest of all time of of he really wanted to. Did Prince's eclectic nature keep him from being the most celebrated in any one particular area but put him in the Top 5 or Top 10 of several. Of course, it is all subjective but is there one category that you think he stands out over all others that is fairly hard to dispute. I have difficulty with this myself. I think he is a Top 5 guitarist, Top 5 bassist, Top 5 songwriter. Certainly Top 5 live performer. Top 5 producer. Are there any of these categories that you think he should be recognized as absolutely number one (or any other categories you can think of)? All good things they say never last...

I think these two are often overlooked because you're right. He's amazing at SO MUCH. Let's just say he was the GOAT of music =] [Edited 6/6/16 16:08pm] <3

Prince was just GOAT. No explanation needed. Just like there's the "King" and the "Queen", Prince is GOAT. "I was here in the beginning and I'll be here forever more"

The greatest all rounder, no doubt. Whatever instrument i saw him on, Guitar, Bass, keys etc, just a masterclass all the way. The sound and the written song is the most important thing when it comes to music for me. I love visual stuff too, but it's secondary, only a bonus. Turns out he was pretty good at that too.

Live performer. James Brown and Springsteen come close, but fall short. No one has ever commanded a stage like P. He was electrifying and ethereal in equal measure. Added to all his other gifts, he's the greatest all rounder ever.

Being a badass even after he sought religion. Hence the nickname "His Royal Badness. The artistry, walk ,look and even his talk was funky. He stood up for what he believed in standing up for himself and other artist for their rights.

I have said this 3 or 4 times on here, I compare him to boxer Sugar Ray Robinson who had everything in spades but he wasn't the best at any one thing, but he was so good at so many that for the last 50 years he's been regarded as the best "pound for pound" fighter ever, which means that if you could make all fighters one weight class, he'd be better than anyone. Prince was that, just so good at so many things that the cumulative effect is him being better than everyone else. Just put anyone up against him and there will be one or more things that they cannot do nearly as well. he was also just a freak of nature, a force of nature, he worked his ass off, harder than anyone, even james Brown. Elvis was prolific but Prince has so much music he "makes elvis look like a piker" in alan leeds' words. So, there were some people who could play guitar or sing better but that was maybe all they could do better because that's all they did. No one beats him when you add everything together. Now, if you argue different things like who was the most original or influential, that's a different arguement.

Everything. I can't split his talents up. They were intertwined in that beautiful package called his body. I was in awe of everything he did. Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

Since art is subjective, it's hard to say "greatest" in my opinion. I think he was the greatest guitarist, for example, but I'm sure plenty of Hendrix, Page, and SRV fans would disagree. And none of us would be wrong, either.

I don't know if I could say he was THE BEST at any particular instrument or that he was THE BEST singer but he was brilliant at playing all the instruments he played and he was a fantastic singer. There are two things that I do think he was best at though. Crafting songs and live performances. I said above that he may not have been the best at any one particular element of making music but he could play guitar better than any of the best singers and he could sing better than the best guitarists. Overall, I think he was the best and that shows through in songs like When Doves Cry, Computer Blue, Sign o the Times etc. My top 10 favourite songs of all time probably contains maybe 8 Prince songs. And in terms of live performances, I don't think anybody has ever done it better. I'm a lifelong Michael Jackson fan and a Springsteen groupie and even they can't match what Prince did on stage.

The most versatile artist of all time, being better at some things than others but overall excelling at practically everything he could do musically. Prince wasn't the GOAT at all he could do but that's not what being versatile means.
