Your top prince videos and why

Just wondering what are your top prince videos

Mines are ( not in order)
Glam slam, something about the blindfold and hair and him and cat was moving
Scandalous the stripdownness of the video and that red outfit
The greatest romance the longhair the red out with glasses
Diamonds and pearls I call this the most beautiful prince video the black and white was amazing plus I love Rosie Gaines
My name is prince I just love they are getting down
Black sweat mature class and sexy plus that look he gave when the woman screams
Thieves in the temple long version oh my word! I was so mad when I found out that there was a long version that took me so long to find! The dancing the way he is singing, the short version now makes me feel cheated
Batdance pure joy to dance to and that hair and black outfit was on point plus i love he played two characters
Betcha by golly wow breaks my heart because of what happened , he looked so happy thou, and the video was so beautiful
Anotherloverholeinyahead loved the yellow and it's rare that I love a stage performance video but this one worked

I mean, a lot of his videos were just performance videos. Little thought went into some of them. You can put the videos from anything from 1980-1982 in a row and have a mini concert for that album.

"When Doves Cry" was the first that sort of changed that up, for him, with the bathtub stuff, the band dancing, the mirror effect. It was more 80s than anything.

"Raspberry Beret" was a night change up for a performance video, with the animation, and the chroma effect.

"Girls and Boys" took a scene in the movie to a new level, and became it's own mini-movie, with somewhat of a story line (band takes over restaurant).

"Alphabet St", despite it's 100% use of a new green screen & some fancy edition equipment at the Park, every fan has paused the fuck out of a VHS tape to find those hidden messages regarding The Black Album.

"U Got The Look", while filmed on the SOTT set, had a different energy to it. With multiple camera shots that differed from those in the film, and the extended portion, there was a fun energy to it that was different than the movie.

"Glam Slam" was a concert clip, but it wasn't. It reminded me of Janet's "Control" - a staged concerted for the sake of a video, opposed to a clip taken from an actual concert. I only wish he had actually incorporated that guitar into the actual concert during "Glam Slam".

"Batdance" - I mean, what can you say about this other than "Keep bustin'!"

"Cream", while a performance video, was multi-angled, and had three sections to the stage, so everyone is doing something different on a different stage, simultaneously. At least it was filmed & edited that way, and it was brilliant.

"Gett Off" is great simply for its sheer debauchery. It's really how many of us pictured weekends at Prince's house anyway.

"Gangsta Glam"/"Clockin' The Jizz"- simply for the peeks inside Paisley Park and the Galpin (yellow) house. It's like that line in Jeffery where Patrick Stewart (playing a gay man) says his biggest sexual fantasy is Yoko Ono. After a pause from people around him, he sighs and adds, "...to see the apartment!"

"Betcha By Golly Wow" - for obvious reasons.

It's hard to include "Purple Rain", "Let's Go Crazy", "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man", "New Power Generation", "Thieves In The Temple", or "Mountains" because there was a lot of the related movie stuff in them.

I remember being infatuated with "I Would Die 4 U" and "Baby I'm A Star" because for many of us, it was the the only bit of the tour that we'd see. (I didn't see "Take Me With U" until years later.) I was even more enamored with "Anotherloverholenyohead".

Black Sweat - this is the video that made me stop and take notice of Prince and made me an instant fan - I had seen and heard of him through the years but I was into Madonna big time to take much interest in him and the whole name change thing weirded me out at the time as I did not understand it.

Scandalous - what is not to love there?
Insatiable - wow so sexy
The One - so visually captivating
The Greatest Romance - love this too

Really been into the NPG era videos lately, especially Eye Hate U, Dolphin, Dinner with Delores, and The One. All great videos. And the video for Come On is a lot cooler than I gave it credit for back then. I loved his old man joke at the end!

Is it possible to see these music videos somewhere, or more so are they available for sale anywhere - like a collection of them or something. I would love to have them and more than willing to pay for them.

I don't think videos were his strongest selling point, I mean compared to a few of his other pop peers. But he didn't need videos to convey his music as much as them IMO. But I digress....

1) "Kiss" - captures his playfulness and sense of humor and it's sexy. It's timeless as is the song.

2) "Little Red Corvette" - Just loved seeing him in jeans during this era.

3) "Black Sweat" - Grown & sexy

4) All of the videos of the Purple Rain era.

5) Everything from UTCM and SOTT

6) "Raspberry Beret." That suit is too memorable to ignore.

"Be glad for what you had baby, what you've got..."

1999 and Little Red Corvette are forever two of his best videos and forever historical for helping break the race divide on MTV.

When Doves Cry became his most influential videography, it's the essence of the great purple revolution of 1984.

Raspberry Beret: Prince and animation, those clouds.

Kiss: Sexy, funny, charged -- it's a little movie with close ups.

Alphabet Street: intentionally low tech and visually dated when it came out, it now just looks classic.

Batdance: His most ambitious video production up to that point, this one has everything from elaborate costumes and to troupe dancing and its shot with the visual flair of Purple Rain's musical scenes.

Cream: another very professional production, very on point.

Musicology: another time when Prince tried harder and won -- from the kid dancing in his room to the Nicholas Brothers hommage, everything in this vid works!

Cinnamon Girl: too few people saw this gem, one of Prince's most visually sophisticated videos -- love the scene colouring, makes everything look like a moving painting.

Black Sweat: funny, minimalistic, effective, iconic.

Rock and Roll Love Affair: straightforward and simple, this is Prince's last great performance video, most of the entertainment value comes from his close ups, which are slick and fun.

Oh Lord - no question, THE masterpiece: "Batdance." Close second: "Partyman." These videos give an indication what type of comic book movie Prince would've made. (Sidenote: shame on Warner for putting the short version of "Partyman" vid on the 'Batman' Blu-ray)

Alphabet St.: pretty like a fawn
Batdance: opened to costume
Gett Off: the aura and dancing/theme
Thieves in the Temple (extended)
Party man: see batdance
Raspberry Beret: snapping and clapping)
When doves cry: intro and ending
7: theme fits really well
D&P: beautiful + seeing Prince with kids rare
Kiss: intro
That's just some...

Anotherloverholenyohead because yellow suit and live performance.

Glam Slam because polka dot suit.

Not to derail the subject, but wa there ever a video for Pop Life? I cant find anything on it but I swear i saw this when i was young back in 1985. I can visualize Prince and the band being chased out of the venue they were performing at in the video.

Maybe I dream't this

When Doves Cry- That scene when the dove gets into the room and Dr. Fink turns his sight to the dove, to me is great.

Kiss- the whole video is great, a simple video and yet iconic, his looks and Lisa sitting there with her guitar, with that cool attitude, and the ending scene is the best.

Call My Name- So classy and elgant, beautiful video for a beautiful song. I love his outfit.

For one song: A-U-T-O-MATIC, baby!

For long form videos, I think my favorite 90s possession that I kept guarded at all costs was a vhs tape that had both The Beautiful Experience and The Undertaker on it. I think I scored it in '95, which was a good five years before I would, um, internet. I fed, dressed, and protected that vhs tape like it was my child.
