Blue Limousine wow

just hearing this for the first time the title looked boring so i never bothered listening but wow. the beat just creates a nostalgic feel of what it must of been like living during the PR era and i will never live in that time sad

  • Brenda Bennett - lead vocals
  • Prince - all instruments (uncredited)
  • Susannah Melvoin - backing vocals

Blue Limousine

7:30 - he said that he'd be here by 6
It's lookin' dirty, I guess he's up 2 his old tricks
He likes 'em pretty, he likes 'em in their lingerie
It's such a pity, I bought a camisole 2 day ... boo hoo, boo hoo

7:30 and there's still no sign of my baby's blue limousine

7:31 - I planned 4 him 2 spend the night
We could've had some fun, pretty men, they never treat U right
They talk so dirty, they get U all worked up inside
It's your car, but everybody else always gets 2 drive

7:31 and there's still no sign of my baby's blue limousine

He's got a white one, he's got a yellow one
He's got a black one with a body obscene
Still no sign of my baby's blue limousine {x2}

7:32 - where can my baby be?
I must be a fool 2 let somebody do this 2 me
I can't stop him, wherever he parks his car is alright
But he'll be parkin' with a dent in the side if he stands me up 2 night

7:32 and there's still no U, my baby blue limousine
Baby blue limousine {x4}

He's got a white one, he's got a yellow one
He's got a black one with a body obscene
Still no sign of my baby's blue limousine

He treats U special like U're the only one
Then your girlfriend tells U that he's havin' big fun
Still no sign of my baby's blue limousine

He's so pretty, he's so nice
He'll make U feel like U're in a paradise
Still no sign of my baby's blue limousine {x2}

He like 'em pretty, he like big titties
He likes 'em in their lingerie
Still no sign of my baby's blue limousine

He's all black, he's all white
Everybody's gotta jam 2 night
Limousine {x2}
Still no sign of my baby's blue limousine {x2}

This song was done a good number of times of the Purple Rain tour as a singular song and during Baby I'm A Star

I was cool hearing Prince sing with Brenda at times

And when he mixed it with Housequake and Dead On It at the Camden aftershow it produced the single funkiest moment of the whole tour

"Blue Limousine", "Toy Box", and "17 Days" are all siblings. Listen to the hooks. They're all incredibly similar. I think "Toy Box" is the lesser of the three, though.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

this is the best song on the Apo6 album.

definitely has an "80s sound" to it - I was around in the 80s

& that was, in fact, the peak of Prince's musical power.

I'll see you tonight..

Great song! It's hard to believe that this song wasn't a major hit.

Because he said he wanted 2 do more with Brenda he should have pushed the songs she was featured on: Did more with them/videos, having Brenda sing with the band more etc

And can we just take a moment to appreciate Brenda's vocals on "Some Kind of Lover", opposed to Apollonia's? It's just so perfect for her.

You judge music by the title?

On that cover for the single... the weird building silhouettes in the background, and Appolonia's hands on her head make it look like she's doing bunny ears...

Just sayin'......

I can't not see it like that.... that pouty mouth.... and bunny ears! Haha.....

Yes, hearing her distinct vocals is wonderful

Love her voice, she is background on Next Time Wipe the Lipstick off Your Collar too

Prince should have just avoided Apollonia except on Sex Shooter

A Million Miles (I Love U) is another

Brenda should have been marketed solo, as a P!nk type of act... twenty years before P!nk.

Recording Reflections:

17 Days: Love, love, love the song. I have a recording of it when I did the song for the second Vanity 6 album. I wish that one had come to fruition.

Manic Monday was never my cup of tea: too "popish" for me. (I'm) glad The Bangles had a hit with it. I don't think Apollonia 6 would have.

Blue Limousine was a bluesy song I liked from the start. (I) loved working with Susannah Melvoin on the vocals to it. The blend and sound of our voices together (was) amazing.
A Million Miles (I Love You) and Some Kind of Lover: I found the inspiration for both of these through my love affair and marriage to Roy Bennett.

ICE CREAM CASTLES & BLUE LIMOUSINES

“During the active years I spent working with Prince, he had spoken to me a couple of times about doing a solo album with me. He thought my performances with Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6 were good, but he also realized that the music I was doing at the time wasn’t really me or the best for my type of voice. He has a good instinct about things like that and asked if I would be interested in doing a solo project with him outside of Apollonia 6. I thanked him and wholeheartedly agreed. But with the success of the Purple Rain film and then the tour, Prince’s path turned in a different direction.”

Once the dust cleared in the Spring of 1985, it became clear that things within the Prince organization would be changing. Prince threw himself into the production of a second movie which would become Under The Cherry Moon. The Time broke up and would not reunite for six years. And things were changing within Brenda’s group as well. Although they did not plan to disband, the two other women made it clear that they would be pursuing other interests in the future. Susan, who had not fully participated in the recording of the Apollonia 6 album, announced that she planned to go back to school. Apollonia wished to return to acting and took a role on the hit nighttime soap opera Falcon Crest. But before heading their separate ways, the group took on two more projects which everyone felt might keep up interest in the group and generate more album sales during their time off.

I'm loving the fierce attitude.

She could have even been a white Grace Jones if Prince had his head screwed on right.

Look at that insane 1980s blush on her cheekbones. It's like a million years B.C... BEFORE CONTOURING!!!

Love love love Brenda and her skank-power!!!

That rap on If A Girl Answers... She's scary. lol

How does the leaked version with Brenda on lead differ from the album version with Brenda on lead?

I listen 2 Blue Limousine all the time, I listen 2 Sex Shooter(A6) usually only with a PR playlist.
BUT the Vanity 6(Sex Shooter) get's rocked all the time.
