I Love the "C-NOTE" EP more than anything else at this moment. Especially the
Japanese cuts are extremely cool. quite un-prince-like in a way. it's different anyway.. In a way, I enjoy "Tokyo", "Osaka" and "Nagoya" more than the trax on Xpectation, although they're different enough to not be compared I guess. I wish Prince would release more stuff like this, hot off the dat. He only recorded the stuff a few months prior to it's release. It would be a great added bonus for another npgmc or something similar. Like the first year, we got so many tracks that were already released, like b-sides and remixes. To've had cuts like these, from soundchecks or jam-sessions at the park would have been priceless. The C-NOTE was a very cool gift at the end of it all, it certainly made it worthwile for me. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Isten, can you describe the difference between the songs?

Ehm, no I can't really describe the difference between the
song beyond their sound really. If I'd try, no doubt someone would holler "Is this guy trying to impress someone with his limited knowledge of jazz music". So I'll refrain from that and just say that the Japan trax on C-Note sound darker and more brooding. Soft & Wet, if you will. Especially the way they end with that weird instrumentation cluttered all over it and the birds chirping along with the monsoon sounds. It's different, that's all I can say. Darker and more grown up than his usual sound. There's always a real sense of joy and optimism in most of Prince's music, same with the Xpectation album. "Tokyo" and "Osaka" don't have that. They sound really beautiful but they have this undertone of a brooding kind of angst. I like that a lot. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

The live version of "Empty Room" is gorgeous, and the whole "e.p." (if ya wanna call it that) is a perfect compliment to Xpectation.
It's so nice to hear some real damn music again, without the pretense and the agendas and the lame-ass guest rappers and the syrupy production values...very nice.

I'm agree wit' u , I prefer the "Japanese instrumentals" than the album xpectation. This instrumentals r more recent than xpectation and that proves me that Prince get better and better with jazzy songs!
