Your single favorite Prince moment?

For Elvis, it was perhaps his Ed Sullivan debut. For MJ, it was the Motown 25th Anniversary performance of Billy Jean. For the Beatles, it was their first American stadium performance. For U2, it was the release of The Joshua Tree...

We no doubt love Prince because of his fascinanting extended career. But is there an incident -- the first time you heard a particular song, saw a performance, an award acceptance, etc. -- that will stick out in your memory as your single most excillerating Prince moment?

A little clitched, but...

The perormance of "Purple Rain" in the movie Purple Rain
Aw man, the energy and emotion put into that performance....it leaves me speechless. I was only 11 at the time, but when I first saw this, even I had tears in my eye

I think you may be remembering his performance on Saturday Night Live's 15th anniversary show.

I think for me, it was when he won one of the Grammies for Purple Rain and brought the Revolution, along with Big Chic, onstage with him. They were SO strange-looking yet absolutely intriguing -- it was amazing. I so wanted to be a member of the band! lol

Another time (and this is merely a Prince-related moment) is when Sheila E. preformed "A Glamorous Life" on the American Music Awards with glow-in-the-dark drumsticks!!! I'd pay money even now for a copy of that classic performance!

Just a snipped from a BBC (?) recording of Just My Imagination, from the UK in 1988. He sings to the guitar for a few songs, and I love it.

Maybe not the moment, but it came to my mind first when I read the question.

I had had the Purple Rain lp for awhile, long enough to have it all memorized. Finally Purple Rain (the movie) came to a theater I could get to and I went to go see it. I was apprehensive. I thought it would be too dumb, but I went w/ a couple of friends.

We were driving everyone crazy singing the songs to the movies and I was not believing how bad the acting was...then came "Darling Nikki" I was permanently hooked the minute he did that move, and ya'll know which one I mean, pushed up off the floor pumping his hips...HOT DAMN! I'd never seen anything like that in my life!!!

Permanently set Prince above the rest. I've never looked back.

OK, 86 that Arsenio performance. I just remembered the 1994 VH1 Honors performance. He kicked ass with "Interactive" & "Endorphinmachine".

What about MTV's coverage of the Purple Rain premiere back in '84? That was a pretty big milestone for him.

Undoubtedly the movie version of "I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man."

Followed closely by the guitar solos of "Morning Papers" and "Purple Rain," and "She's Always In My Hair." Atl 1993.

The first time I ever heard "Expert Lover."

The entire Lovesexy concert, East Coast leg, 1988.

That one AMA awards show from the mid-90s. Damn, I thought he was so cool, and so sexy, and I had never heard music like that before (even though not a moment of it was live).

Edit: this was exciting because it was my discovery of 0(+>, not because it was particularly excellent in itself, though the choreography was cool.
