Opinions of PG Versions of Prince Songs?

Which side of the fence are you own if Prince would have changed some of the lyrics to keep performing Gett Off, Erotic City, etc. etc. I like the music to Gett Off and Erotic City so much I don't care how he would changed the lyrics. In EC he could have changed F_ck to Funk. lol heehee lol

I just always thought it was funk but the intent was fu--.

I am not sure how you could clean up Gett Off at all.

I like his newer stuff though because it's easier to listen to with my kid around - I really don't care though about the naughty bits and her. She knows it's grown folks talkin'... However she's been doing the Sexy Dancer breathing thing that is remixed into one of the new songs on Phase II . I just laugh and pray she doesn't sing it at school: eek

I haaaaaaaaaaate when he edits his songs live. It's embarassing. When you won't even say the lyric "work that body like a whore", and instead "work that body like ya want some more". I cringe. I think about the award show during 3121 days (with The Time, & Tamar), and Jamie Foxx is singing to "DMSR" in the audience, and Prince is singing different lyrics. Or when he does "Housequake". "Shut up already...huh".

Hate it hate it hate it hate it. I'd rather he'd have no sang those songs at all, that felt he needed to edit.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I agree. With that said, nothing brought me more joy than hearing the audience chant things like "Play that motherfucking bass" in songs where he had previously encouraged such behavior. Hearing him ask them to not do it made me lol

I completely agree! It's cringe-worthy when I hear these changes. Hate it!

never really paid them much attention, i didn't see him live that often. Some people seemed to have the deep pockets to follow him around. he did seem to waver back and forth, if he sang dirty mind recently that tells you he wasn't really all that strict about his beliefs. He did what he felt like doing as any artist should.

The 7" edit of Housequake removed all the "bullshit"...

You know, I've just realised that I've never heard the clean version of The Symbol Album.

Yes agreed. He would even change I Feel For You to "It's mainly a spiritual thing". Oh well, he was wacky in some and an eccentric genius, and just had to deal with some of those drawbacks.

I didn't know there was one. I'll keep the original. The sexy MF single edit is poor. I live in France so this video often gets played in all its glory. It never bothered me if he changed lyrics live. I just hate those censored tracks. I lost one of my original emancipation CDs and replaced it with the censored version.

My verdict, change the lyrics live (sadly these days are gone) but leave the recorded stuff alone.

In 1999 there was a hilarious performance on French tv with NPG and Larry. Princ was jamming on guitar getting funky singing. N....P....G.... And the audience started singing IN THA MOTHERFUCKING HOUSE... P smiled and said oh no... And laughed.

OMG that was one of the worst, and how he looked up to the ceiling and pointed. It made me think of Ingrid doing that in Graffiti Bridge. "No baby. Him." Heifer, sit down and shush. LOL
