Red House - Detroit '84 From the Purple Finale boot... listed online as just "Club Gig In Detroit November 1984".
Anyone know anything more about this gig? Just an amazing set of songs, bass turned way up and great guitar. Came up on shuffle on my Ipod after I hadn't heard it in years and now can't turn it off.

I love that your avatar was approved.
As for your question, it is probably mistitled/labeled by the bootlegger.

Don't see anything for a small club date in Detroit in 1984. |

That may be the gig where he, Bobby Z and BrownMark took over the instruments after a Shelia E gig. If it is, that is one of my favorite "unofficial" recordings by him. He is pulling all the stops on the guitar with barely any effects...I think the show was really recorded at the First Avenue club in Oct 84...They also jammed on "Mutiny" and Sly's "Africa". |

Hmm. Chose it when I was young and stupid. Not sure I'd pick the same again!

Thanks for clearing that up.
http://discogs.com/release/5330997 had nothing to do with Detroit. He probably mentioned Detroit in the set, which of course the bootlegger then mistitled the release. Thanks to SPYZFAN1, here's the actual information: http://www.princevault.com/index.php?title=26_October_1984-am
Edit: I was right. According to Princevault, "Prince mentions Detroit during the performance, but he was probably using the gig as an opportunity for an open rehearsal (he is known to shout out different city names during rehearsals)." .

Bobby Z and Brownmark? I would never have guessed. |

Bobby Z and Brownmark really laid down their tightness as a rhythm section. They kept up with P's constant changes throughout..I love their take on "Erotic City". |
