Why isn't The Gold Experience on iTunes??? Forgive my ignorance.

Because it was released after 1993. Prince blocked any reprint, physically and digitally. WB can only release this stuff in vinyle or audio cassette. This is not a joke.

They Could Release the Vinyl of it? Are you sure about that?

Since they are releasing COME and BLACK ALBUM on vinyle and cassette audio, and since they can't release it on CD/ digital (must be a contractual trick), it must be the same thing about GOLD. Moreover, I read a poster here that claimed that GOLD was about to be released on december. I asked him his sources, he never answered, to my knowledge. It was, IIRC, on the "what is the most valuable album" or something like that. COME and BLACK were announced one months after they announced they will go until LOVESYMBOL. So, maybe in january 2017...

Stop worrying. In due time, ALL of it is going to be available.

The due time was the week following his death. Now, nobody cares. See worldwide HNR2 sales if you wanna be sure of that.

ROD, stop being so critical... In the month since his death he has sold over 3 million albums and over 2 million singles worldwide, with THE VERY BEST OF PRINCE still in the top 10 in the world albums charts...

You're not seeing the big picture here. This isn't a rush to the finish line. Its a slow burn. Its taking into account of making his catalogue the Miles Davis of pop/rock catalogue. Come on now.

You were bitching a few months ago about chart sales and now when he is selling you still carrying on. I am sorry he isn't selling enough CDs from the grave for you

The real question is why is it not on Tidal? Who is blocking that one?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Probably because of reasons. Just give it a couple of months (hopefully not years)...

Expect that all to change.
If the reports are correct and Warner again has a stake in the catalog, expect their to be releases and re-releases all over the place. "I know I hold you too tight, but I just can't seem to get close enough."

3 millions albums ? No way... Friday TVBO won't be in the top 10 anymore. Next week, PURPLE RAIN will exist the top 40, and TVBO will surely be out when the BET tribute will be broadcast.

I was not "bitching", I was just telling a fact, that AOA and PLEC ELEC were flops, because even the Prince's fanbase didn't buy the album at the time of his release. Now the interest has really vanished...HNR2 is a flop, and could have been a hit if Universal made promotion. Prince is clearly not that accessible, and half of his discography is not available anymore.

Bowie's carrer has been handled very diferently. His discography was available when he died. When Prince died, people going on a record store found nothing to buy. And then, their interest has vanished.

2 bad people doesn't understand that the Prince's legacy hold in the availibily AND the revalorisation of his catalogue. I'm not criticising Prince. Of course I love him, that's why I think it's disappointing that not anybody can purchase his albums, because they are not available, or not remastered (even if remastering is pure shit, but that is what people want). I'm just stating facts. If he never gave WB the remasters (that were in talks since at least 2004!) just because they didn't want to offer him the money he thought he would deserve, it was a really dumb move to sign with Tidal. He would have made more money with a good relaionship with WB the last 12 years, instead of signing for one year with TIDAL for just digital music.

AOA/PE received no promotion from WB at least Prince went on SNl and to tour in Europe. He actually made an attempt to promote it but we do not know if his health issues slowed him down. We do know WB did nothing to promote it and Hit and Run was independent release no amount of promotion will get that Cd on the radio everybody knows this except you. If you go Goggle today you will see numerous articles about the record setting 19 albums P has on the Billboard chart 4 weeks out from his death. He is going to be a big seller for sometime and would have been selling while if WB had not have let so many go out of print and if the radio would stop cutting artist off their place list after they turn 40. When people had chance to hear his music they went out brought it.

Not sure why you are so deluded into thinking that P should have been kissing the ass of WB when he was making loads of money in the road and got the masters back in the end without having grovel.

The funny thing is why do they care? I mean yeah I'm somewhat glad to see Prince's work is getting recognition and that so many records have been sold last month because I'm happy if his work brings joy to other people the way it brought joy to me, and it's a way of showing Prince's legacy is there to stay. But I couldn't care less when he was alive and I couldn't care less next month either. I have all the albums. I can enjoy them and share them with my friends if they ask me to. I couldn't care less about how many copies Prince sold those last 20 years because I knew those records were out and I could get them. I'm sorry for the new fans but on the other hand all that stuff can be found pretty easily illegally, so it's not like they can't get the records if they really want them anyway, and even in the good old 80's and 90's releases finding certain Prince and associated artists releases has always been treasure hunting in the record stores, and it was part of the fun. Most of the artists I listen to are very confidential acts, known by very few people, and I couldn't care less. I have their records, I found them, I dig them, I don't need fucking MTV and I certainly don't need them to chart in order to enjoy them in the sanctuary of my living room... AOA received every promotion they could do without Prince's involvement. They even went to make some shitty music video using Prince's footage on SNL. AOA was very weel distributed and was in front of every record store, even in Europe. Of course, health issues slowed him down, it's obvious now.But if he could tour and make two concerts / a day , he could have done music video for funknroll, for instance. But it was still a very bad move commercially to release two album the same day. Prince's fanbase had vanished in 2014, I never said it was good, or bad, I just said it vanished. Many orgers here didn't buy AOA and PLEC ELEC at the time. Why?
BLACKSTAR didn't need 1 hit to sell 1.7 millions. HNR2 sold maybe 80.000 worldwide in one month, can't you see the difference ? Universal distribute HNR2, and they treated it like shit. They have several music video to promote it, but I'm sure they don't even know of their existence. In this case, this is Universal that I blame, don't get it wrong. [Edited 6/3/16 4:28am]
