Because it was released after 1993. Prince blocked any reprint, physically and digitally. WB can only release this stuff in vinyle or audio cassette. This is not a joke.

They Could Release the Vinyl of it? Are you sure about that?

Since they are releasing COME and BLACK ALBUM on vinyle and cassette audio, and since they can't release it on CD/ digital (must be a contractual trick), it must be the same thing about GOLD.

Moreover, I read a poster here that claimed that GOLD was about to be released on december. I asked him his sources, he never answered, to my knowledge.

It was, IIRC, on the "what is the most valuable album" or something like that.

COME and BLACK were announced one months after they announced they will go until LOVESYMBOL.

So, maybe in january 2017...

ROD, stop being so critical... In the month since his death he has sold over 3 million albums and over 2 million singles worldwide, with THE VERY BEST OF PRINCE still in the top 10 in the world albums charts...

You're not seeing the big picture here. This isn't a rush to the finish line. Its a slow burn. Its taking into account of making his catalogue the Miles Davis of pop/rock catalogue. Come on now.

Agreed. Prince's death is going to ripple throughout the fanbase, the record industry, and the world for a very, very long time. But those vinyl remasters are coming out once a mont pretty much. I even saw the 12" for "New Power Generation" in there somewhere. I've already pre-ordered Prince. The 90s stuff is sure to come out as well. Bowie's been gone longer, and peolel are still clamoring for those remastered vinyls that are trickling out.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Expect that all to change.

If the reports are correct and Warner again has a stake in the catalog, expect their to be releases and re-releases all over the place.

3 millions albums ? No way...

Friday TVBO won't be in the top 10 anymore. Next week, PURPLE RAIN will exist the top 40, and TVBO will surely be out when the BET tribute will be broadcast.

I was not "bitching", I was just telling a fact, that AOA and PLEC ELEC were flops, because even the Prince's fanbase didn't buy the album at the time of his release.

Now the interest has really vanished...HNR2 is a flop, and could have been a hit if Universal made promotion.

Prince is clearly not that accessible, and half of his discography is not available anymore.

Bowie's carrer has been handled very diferently. His discography was available when he died. When Prince died, people going on a record store found nothing to buy. And then, their interest has vanished.

Respectfully, I don't think that's true. I just saw a headline today about him having 19 songs in the Top 200. He's still charting five weeks after his death, almost reaching two dozen songs on the charts. I mean, the dust eventually settles on everything like this, doesn't it. It did for Whitney, MJ, Elvis, the Beatles. It will for Bowie, and Prince - someday. But for now, people are still buying songs and albums from him.

Just as a footnote: There's some weird normalcy about him being on the charts like this again. It's familiar. Being a child of the 80s (I was born in in 68; graduated in 86), Prince not being on the charts wasn't even something in one's mind. To read headlines like "Prince had three Top 10 hits" or something is like "Oh, cool. What's for dinner?" It's just part of the status quo as I knew it back then. So I guess there's a comfort in it, in the midst of his death. It's like "Whew, I don't have to carry the purple flag for a while - people are listening again. Even in a tragic moment, they're listening." It's all Prince wanted to be remembered for, was the music. And now he is again.

Edit: I wish Prince's career and catalog had been handled even remotely like Bowie's. Bowie really cared for his stuff, and thought of the fan's need for this, or that, and went above and beyond that. I even dare to say Nine Inch Nails approaches some of that the same way, too.

Too bad too many folks on this website would rather focus on things that have absolutely nothing to do with the music. Straight up disrespecting someone they supposedly love. Anyways...

I agree with you on the 2nd part. Prince called it living in the past, which was why he claimed he wouldn't do it -- yet continued performing the songs that he didn't take care of on record. And if it turns out he didn't have a will, it's as if he's just giving the finger to himself. Worked so hard to get his masters back -- and for what? You see how Miles Davis' estate has been handled -- and how his fans (old and new) benefit from all of the incredible material that has become available since he passed away. It's so unfortunate that future fans may never know the extent of Prince's greatness. Current longtime fans sort of know, but it is starting to feel like we too may never know the vastness of what may have been in the vault(s). He could have avoided this by taking better care (or allowing others to) of the released material while he was still here.

2 bad people doesn't understand that the Prince's legacy hold in the availibily AND the revalorisation of his catalogue. I'm not criticising Prince. Of course I love him, that's why I think it's disappointing that not anybody can purchase his albums, because they are not available, or not remastered (even if remastering is pure shit, but that is what people want).

I'm just stating facts.

If he never gave WB the remasters (that were in talks since at least 2004!) just because they didn't want to offer him the money he thought he would deserve, it was a really dumb move to sign with Tidal. He would have made more money with a good relaionship with WB the last 12 years, instead of signing for one year with TIDAL for just digital music.

--- You are bitching now and you were bitching then. AOA/PE received no promotion from WB at least Prince went on SNl and to tour in Europe. He actually made an attempt to promote it but we do not know if his health issues slowed him down. We do know WB did nothing to promote it and Hit and Run was independent release no amount of promotion will get that Cd on the radio everybody knows this except you. If you go Goggle today you will see numerous articles about the record setting 19 albums P has on the Billboard chart 4 weeks out from his death. He is going to be a big seller for sometime and would have been selling while if WB had not have let so many go out of print and if the radio would stop cutting artist off their place list after they turn 40. When people had chance to hear his music they went out brought it.

- Yes it was a dumb move to get the masters back and to own a piece of Tidal and get a higher rate for streaming than what he would get from Apple or Goggle😳 People like you have a crumb mindset ( let me get some crumbs from the pie instead of getting the whole pie. Not sure why you are so deluded into thinking that P should have been kissing the ass of WB when he was making loads of money in the road and got the masters back in the end without having grovel.

You realize he's dead, right? You don't have to stick up for him over the terrible decisions HE made over his catalog over the years. He's not going to ORGnote you and tell you thanks and invite you out to Paisley for a private performance.

Nobody's attacking Prince personally here in this thread. We're saying he was too busy making music to say -- have a will. Too busy making music and performing to think about something his fans would appreciate. Too busy making music and performing to see what is going on with other artists -- and think maybe he should do something similar. On RSD, he was at Electric Fetus buying the new remaster vinyl of Joni Mitchell's Hejira. Does anyone believe that this is the first time he purchased that record? No. I'm assuming he bought it because he was interested in the remaster of his fellow WB artist. Or maybe he just wanted to play it for Joshua since he had such shit taste in music.

Let's all agree that Prince was a great guy, short of the nonsense he said in interviews in the last couple of decades that many around here ideologically disagree with. And let us all keep an open mind when it comes to how poorly he treated the art he created in the beginning of his career.

--- I brought facts you bring sarcastic bullshit. P did not control his WB catalogue until he gained the masters back was it his responsibility to make sure CDs stayed in print? Was he responsible for spearheading a remaster project? Think about the logic of what you are saying. If WB wanted to do something with P catalog they could have they had the master tapes not Prince. He could have have been softer in his negotiation but he stuck to his guns and got what he wanted. I think you are forget that you do not own his music and his decisions were for his benefit not the fans. If he wanted to take the master tapes and burn them so be it. You need to get the fuck over yourself because all you have done for a month is make nasty ass comments about Prince. Maybe you think he is alive and is reading this board and cares what you think. Maybe you need to move on since you cannot even acknowledge that he sold about 4 million units in a months time without anything being remastered because most people don't care about it.

The funny thing is why do they care?

I mean yeah I'm somewhat glad to see Prince's work is getting recognition and that so many records have been sold last month because I'm happy if his work brings joy to other people the way it brought joy to me, and it's a way of showing Prince's legacy is there to stay. But I couldn't care less when he was alive and I couldn't care less next month either. I have all the albums. I can enjoy them and share them with my friends if they ask me to. I couldn't care less about how many copies Prince sold those last 20 years because I knew those records were out and I could get them.

I'm sorry for the new fans but on the other hand all that stuff can be found pretty easily illegally, so it's not like they can't get the records if they really want them anyway, and even in the good old 80's and 90's releases finding certain Prince and associated artists releases has always been treasure hunting in the record stores, and it was part of the fun.

Most of the artists I listen to are very confidential acts, known by very few people, and I couldn't care less. I have their records, I found them, I dig them, I don't need fucking MTV and I certainly don't need them to chart in order to enjoy them in the sanctuary of my living room...

AOA received every promotion they could do without Prince's involvement. They even went to make some shitty music video using Prince's footage on SNL. AOA was very weel distributed and was in front of every record store, even in Europe.

Of course, health issues slowed him down, it's obvious now.But if he could tour and make two concerts / a day , he could have done music video for funknroll, for instance.

But it was still a very bad move commercially to release two album the same day. Prince's fanbase had vanished in 2014, I never said it was good, or bad, I just said it vanished. Many orgers here didn't buy AOA and PLEC ELEC at the time. Why?

BLACKSTAR didn't need 1 hit to sell 1.7 millions. HNR2 sold maybe 80.000 worldwide in one month, can't you see the difference ? Universal distribute HNR2, and they treated it like shit. They have several music video to promote it, but I'm sure they don't even know of their existence.

In this case, this is Universal that I blame, don't get it wrong.
