Wow! I've never interpreted the 'beautiful girl the most' as Anna Stesia. If the beautiful girl were Anna Stesia why not say that? So who or what is 'Gregory' to you? The physical world? And the beautiful girl is Anna Stesia who is the portal to the spiritual world?? Interesting!! I always took 'Gregory' to be a metaphor for addiction, in this case sexual addiction because it's a beautiful girl who urges him to fly away... Do you mean by a lucid dream as in another word for death but in this case it's birth since it's to the spiritual world? Sorry if I confused you more

I think it refers to Gregory Brooks. Why would he use Gregory Books as a metaphor for sexual addiction?

I never thought to think it was Gregory Brooks wither Why would Gregory Brooks look just like a ghost? I guess that's the power in his lyrics... it's all open to different interpretation

Very well put donnyenglish!! That's what I wanted to read in the beginning of the post!! I've never thought about this until now, but after reading your post, u inspired me! It's the part I put in bold above... I really believe Prince was a prophet. And by prophet I mean someone who has contact or was sent by God to speak for Him, as in serving as an intermediary with humanity, and delivering God's message or knowledge to us. I completely agree with you that Prince must have known that he fulfilled his purpose on this earth. And it seems like to me that he knew he had, that he even knew it was time to go. And you can bash me all you want for thinking and believing he was a real prophet to us and I don't care because that is what I truly believe. I mean, is Prince playing his guitar... Or is Prince simply delivering God's message through his guitar and poetry and frankly everything. Prince was the Chosen One. No one else in this world that I know of had the same gifts and the same platform to deliver it. No one. What I don't get about your post though is Anna Stesia referring to lucid dreams. Please be more specific with this, as in please write down which lyrics specifically make u feel like he is referring to lucid dreams. That would help me understand what you want to discuss further Thanks donnyenglish.
You know, I said that he was a prophet in a thread a few weeks ago and everybody acted like I was crazy... To many that is exactly what he is. The word "prophet" has many meanings, but I feel like he was a vessel for god. The opening line of The Rainbow Children hit me hard yesterday. "With an accurate understanding of God and his law, he went about the work of building a new nation." I am fortunate to have been a part of that nation since the beginning.

Interesting ways to interpret this song... to me it has always been one of his most straightforward ones, not hiding what it is about...
To me, from the first time I heard it, is simply meant he was in a bad state of mind, not feeling good at all. He tried drugs to numb himself, had a trip/realisation and felt that anesthetics weren't as good the opium of the people. Hence the awful preachyness that was the Lovesexy era. He never really recovered from that, although the Rainbow Children did have much better music.
It's not much of a play on words, but Anna Stesia is what he does *not* want, he wants God and this song is about saying goodbye to drugs and embracing another addiction, religion.
If anything, Anna is a siren. [Edited 6/1/16 5:21am] Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

This thread started with talking of his Piano and Microphone at Paisley (Paisley Park?) where he discussed having lucid dreams. Can someone tell me please, where exactly he said this? Was he at Paisley Park or was it part of the Piano and Microphone concert and if so, which location? thank you---

Because Prince was at the club with Ingrid and Gregory and was on drugs that night? Remeber he took the E that he was given by Cat, which she was given by that dude from the Red Hot Chili Peppers (Anthony Kiedis or Flea, but I think it was Anthony). This story is well documented and confirmed. It´s why he stopped the Black Album and wrote the Lovesexy album.

Guys, come on, the point of a play on words is that it doesn't have one specific meaning.

Anna Stesia come to me, talk to me, ravish me
I think Gregory is Vanity. Lost to drugs. He loved her, in that space in time. He went to a dark place and realized neither she or her habits were for him. He rose above, so to speak
I think Anna Stesia is God or a higher being....portrayed as a woman or prostitute...or so we believe in the beginning.
This song is about believing in a higher power..something greater than ourselves to pull us from our sins i.e. Between white and black, night and day
He later realized the only way is to release yourself and put your faith in something that is intangible Love is God God is Love Boy or Girl God Above....all sex, drugs and music.
Just my take. [Edited 6/1/16 7:27am]

I think much of what he did in life was a lucid dream for him. I think that he may not have known what everything he was doing really meant. But, it all makes sense now. Kinda like his lyric in June. "Makes no sense now, but it will soon." It's June.

Just my take. [Edited 6/1/16 7:27am] I doubt Vanity was the only person he knew that did drugs. I always thought this song was inspired as a result of the ecstacy trip he had with Ingrid Chavez and how he chose to not go that dark route and find God instead. Love is God,

Anna Stesia will be blasting today. This song is so bright, but so dark at the same time. The same can be said about "Way Back Home." Both are a bit darker today.

has it been mentioned that the etymology of the name "Anastesia" means "resurrection" from the greek "ana' (up) + 'statis' (standing)? i find that comforting that it was played after sometimes it snows in april. flowing through the veins of the tree of life...purplemaplesyrup

avajane said: Actually, the song he sang right before mentioning lucid dreams was Sometimes it Snows in April since he was seeing friends that have passed away. He ended the first show with Anna Stesia. [Edited 5/30/16 9:53am] I've heard it said that people near death often experience lost loved ones near, I wonder if this is part of it? I always assumed this was about his realisation that his relationship with Anna Fantastic was somehow wrong for him, and was leaving him empty. He needed to find meaning and find God. Do the timeframes fit? I'm looking out for a purple dolphin.
