Not sure it is at all but if I were Madonna, I'd pretend it is from now on.

The voice that is like an angel sighing makes me think of falsetto and the sexual imagery and emphasis on vocal references, it's like she's talking about a singer. Add the video being about interracial love, the fact they dated and collaborated, it's not improbable she's singing about a black dude with a great voice that says her name in an angelic way.

Yeah you might be right.
In fact I think that every song that Prince wrote was about Madonna.
And everything the Material Girl wrote was about Prince.

The one real Prince connection (and it's thin) to this is director Mary Lambert. She started to direct Under The Cherry Moon, but got a Hollywood attitude about it all, and Prince fired her ass (so the story goes). She was credited as "Creative Consultant", but that was it. Lambert directed a lot of Madonna videos early on, as well as other acts like Janet Jackson ("Control", "Nasty").

There's still rumor that Prince played guitar on "Like A Prayer". I think that intro guitar sounds like his noodling. That's just me. He is known to have played on "Keep It Together" and "Act of Contrition" (which, the latter has the same crazy psycho guitar "playing" as heard in the intro to "Like A Prayer", ergo my theory.)

But no, the song is not about him. Definitely influenced by him I think, in a round about way. She's mixing love, sex, and religion, which was pretty standard fare for Prince.
