Vanguard Jam, Private White House Performance I was reading news earlier today and saw where Michelle Obama and Oprah (among others) were doing a forum on the United State of Women (discussed in other threads, but for reference, link to the article here: http://www.billboard.com/...of-women).
Honestly, I don't live under a rock. But this article was the first time I realized that Prince and Stevie Wonder did a private White House performance for the Obamas. So, excited and intrigued, I went out looking to see if any clips had been subsequently released by the White House. Nada. Apparently private meant private, and the Obamas certainly stuck to that.
So I came back here and searched the forum archives and found this post:

Googled around, found the actual performance, and just found myself sitting here with my hair blown back from the awesomeness. This is one I had missed. If you haven't seen it, find it and watch it. It. Was. Amazing. "Everything that's in your heart, come what may
Even though his might get broken" RIP Prince

Just to be clear, these are two different performances

You are so right! Thank you for clarifying. My post was jumbled. "Everything that's in your heart, come what may

I wonder if anyone was brave enough to try and record the Obama performance... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I'm sure the White House did; the Obamas paid for the performances themselves. Pete Souza (the official WH photographer) always took hundreds of photos of every event. Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

I'm talking about a guest with a recording device in the pocket. Can you imagine trying to get that past White House security like all these brave bootleggers have done at the usual Prince concerts?! I am wondering if the Obamas have contacted the estate management and asked for permission to release the video. I am certain they recorded it. "Everything that's in your heart, come what may

Even the Obamas would have had to have Prince's permission to record the concert. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Presidents don't record things illegally, do they? ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

One of us should file a Freedom of Information Act request to try to get the concert released. It probably wouldn't fly, given that it was a private event, but maybe we could think of an argument.

Good idea, but the article that I read indicated that in addition to it being a private event, the Obamas funded it themselves out of their personal funds. That would probably take it out of the realm of anything that would be subject to the Freedom of Information Act. No public funds used.
