Anyone explain the flood of youtube Prince since he passed?

Ok--so first off--I'm glad that there's ALL this AMAZING live Prince popping up everywhere. (Facebook, Youtube, etc.) I feel like it gives fans but especially newbie's the opportunity to see what all the fuss is about. The man just had talent and charisma and fiery energy pouring from his body. I think there are very very few people that can stand in his class as a LIVE peformer--and I'm happy that the world is able to bask in that beauty. For how long? I dunno.

Here's the question--Prince passes his body on April 21. Prior to that 'the lawyers' protected his stuff hard and did not allow too much content to sneak through on youtube. So then when he passes--do basically all the lawyers (or whoever it was) quit doing their job--like on that day? How did that happen so quickly? And of course--will the estate eventually put a stop to it?

Were there provisions for the lawyers to keep getting paid after he passed?

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I would assume the contract will be with NPG publishing. As NPG publishing is it's own legal entity they have the right to enforce ownership over it's IPR.

.

As a publisher, their remit is to still collect funds from the exploitation of it's catalogue. However, in time it will be interesting to see if they stay true to Prince's wishes or make their own commercial judements.

.

I am happy content is on YouTube, but I totally agree with what Prince said in an interview explaining his decision to not allow content.

Yeah, but when the owner of NPG publishing is gone, who are "they"?

what's the incentive to try to block any of it now? He's gone. I doubt if most lawyers really have any personal sentiments anyway, they just want the doe re mi.

Flood exposure means somebody is reaping the monetary benefits of all this exposure! And guess who they are .... cool

I've thought about this a bit. My theory is the youtube scrubbers were being paid from an account that was frozen after Prince died.

Nobody works for free.

.

They are removing a ton of videos now. And many accounts are being closed. I bookmarked about 15 videos two weeks ago and over 10 of them are gone.

.

Some are removed by NPG Publishing, some by Web Sherrif., Some by UMPG publishing , Universal, etc.

It could be that they are removing just as many as before, but obvioulsy there are like 100x as many posted now. But the posting will slow down and they probably won't slow down with the takedowns. I need to post some myself.

I've been enjoying everything while it's still up there. I saw VEVO even put together their own P video page.

I believe that royalties are paid to the artist after a certain number of plays on YouTube. In order for Prince's businesses to thrive, there has to still be a money stream. Now that he's gone, there are no tours to pay for these expenses. The only thing left is royalties!!! And with the number of family members Prince has splitting the whole monetary value of his legacy, I'm not surprised they're moving slow on surpressing the plays and purchases of Prince music.

Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

Is that a statement of denial or am I incorrect? Look, I take correction with the best of them.
