What is likely to be the first Vault release? Several Prince interviews clearly indicate he knew the Vault material would one day be released "by somebody". Question is...when all is setlled, what is likely to be the first release?
- A classicly bootlegged album - A piece of work from the Revolution years - Something none of us even knew about - The discussed upcoming "Black is the New Black" album Prince was planning - The Piano & Microphone Live album - A DVD release of a concert - 3121 the Movie
What do you feel or wish will see a release as the first material from the Vault?

Piano and a Microphone. Although a video release would be better, I believe...

It's not Tyka's call. She is just one of several equal members of the estate. The reality is a corporation like Warner Bros will come along and cut each family member a check for $50m and tell them to go away.

If Warners bought the entire vault it would be handled responsibly. We would get yearly releases & the contents would be professionally restored. I hope that all the non Warners catalog would also be bought by one company so these get the re-release treatment also. Atlanta. The Final Shows should be the next release as that was his intention & surely apart from editing out some background noise the tapes are ready to go!! ----- "I'm Blinded By The Daises In Ur Yard."

Look at the mess created over at the Zappa household as regards the release of new posthumous FZ material and then i think everyone here would be grateful for a record company major like Warner Brothers to come along and release new Prince material themselves. The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

I don't think anything will be released. Besides nobody knew how to put the music together n out there like Prince did. Somebody is bound to mess it up.

The already sequenced last Piano & Microphone tour will surely be the first release. The appeal of the "last show" will entice even the most casual of Prince fans.

This needs to be handled by a major label. Sony Legacy would be another good choice (see their Dylan releases for evidence) but Prince's relationship with Sony was so brief that it wouldn't make as much sense as Warner.

I think we will get some music, but not nearly as much as some fans think.

Certainly these vault releases would only be collections, rather than sequenced albums. However, Prince's various engineers and possibly former band members might be able to provde some good input as far as organizing those collections. For certain things such as a Crystall Ball or Dream Factory collection, they might actually be able to get it close.

Definitely agree this needs a company with major resources to organize and put all this together. And once these do get released, no way I'm skimping out on anything. Super Deluxe versions of everything for me. Serve it all up WB!

Well ur giving it the benefit of the doubt cuz the way things have transpired in the last month...I doubt it.

Hopefully if something is released it will happen with somebody who knew a lil bit about Princes wishes cuz if not its gonna be a mess.

The Atlanta show should be the first one. I assume it would be easiest one to put out now. In a purple box wth his name embossed in gold on the front. I have a feeling we will be waiting a while for anything to come out.

My feeling is it will be at least 1-2 years before we see anything released once all the dust settles. And I really hope I'm wrong and it's a lot sooner The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

WB IMO would be most likely to: 1) Cash in on Remasters. 3) Release endless "Best of" collections with 2 or 3 new songs each time.

I not sure if WB has anything to do with a vault material, nor do i think they would bid for any of it. Furthermore, i assume that owner ship would fall under Paisley Park Enterprises and/or NPG music publishing. Just to assemble a engineering team to "finish" an indivdual project or album would likely take considerable financial resources. They would have to take great care to get the right peple to work on any given project. It is one thing to see any project through to completion, but it is another thing entirely to finish it the right way.

Or maybe longer. It really seems up in the air at the moment.
I'm hoping WB does what Sony did with MJ. They made an agreement with the estate for a series of projects. I hope the same things happen with WB and Prince's estate.
What I'd like the first release to be is a box set of outtakes in the fashion of Bob Dylan's "Bootleg Series Vol 1-3". In fact I'd like to see WB start a "Bootleg" series of Prince's unreleased masters in addition to a remastering of the catalog.
It's just waaaaaaaay too early at this point. No point in getting excited.

suomynona said: There is a very clear difference between Prince and the other one: Prince left loads of unreleased music. Even if the purple rain reissue contains a remix of the beautiful ones featuring Bieber (please don't...), there is a good chance it will also include Electric Intercourse... We'll have to wait and see, but hopefully, as somebody mentioned, WB will offer the heirs a lot of money for the whole catalogue. And considering they are not necessarily cash fluent they will gladly accept it...
