NPG Exodus question

I have the original NPG/Edel releases of New Power Generation's Exodus on CD & Vinyl. On the CD track #03 has a cut/gap of a couple seconds. The LP does not have this gap and is intact.

My question is does anyone know if all versions of this CD have the same glitch? For that matter, do all copies of the version I have have the glitch. (I know it's not just my CD as I know another person that has this CD and his has the same issue).

I got the vinyl and CD on the same day and never played the vinyl. I guess I can't help LOL

Between

"-Oh, how U gonna see with that mask on?
-Same way I saw your mama"

and
"... that!"

there's a mini gap. No 2 seconds at all

And what do they say on the vinyl before the word "that"?

That's what I thought at first, but there's a parental advisory label on the cover and Count The Days is not edited, so I really dunno.

"How U gonna see with that mask on?"

"Same way I saw your mama last night."
"Fuck that!"

So, yeah, but a couple seconds later (and many times in the album) we clearly hear the word, fuck. So, censorship makes no sense. It's gotta be a glitch.

newpowersoul orgnoted me that the Australian CD does not have the gap. Wish I'd known that years ago when the disc was still affordable. Ah well. I did a fix on my CD files sourced from the LP. That will do me until I find the Australian CD, or, at least a copy of it.

Thanks for the responses and the info!!

wink

I never noticed it before - probably because I was too busy laughing after the "same way I saw your mama" line.

.

But yes, my original CD has the gap, too, right at the :20 mark in the Segue. Less than a second of silence that sounds like a cover up of "fuck," which is said a hundred other times throughout the album.

Apparently the Australian CD release doesn't have the gap.. All others do as far as I'm aware.. That was a big bonus to having the vinyl for me.. I'm sure there's at least one other gap somewhere... Can't remember now..

What a classic album!

It is an edit of the word Fuck. I've had 2 Exodus CDs in my life. One has it, the other didn't.

I don't remember spotting any other gaps on my CD. Maybe I missed it. Care to give yours a spin and give us an update?

i think mt CD has the gap...but he says F that twice... so it seems some copies edited out the F word

Which is silly as the F word is in other places in the album!

Such as "count the days" "here's the church and here's the steeple...here's a Mother Fer I have to blow away..."

Since the word is ALL over the album, and it is a hard cut with a gap, and the vinyl that came out at the same time & same label as the CD is uncut, and since the Australian CD version is uncut... I'm gonna call it:

It's a glitch, a defect in the CD probably sourced back to the manufacturing. It's NOT an intentional censor. wink

but it says it two times is it edited both time or just once?

Which is the 2nd time you're referring to?

Yeah, but there are literally dozens of instances of the word throughout the album. It wouldn't make sense to censor just that. Also, the LP & CD I have were issued by the same label in the same market and at the same time. Why censor the CD but not the LP?

It's a manufacturing glitch. They happen.

I agree like i said it is in count the days and the same thing is said 5 seconds latter... i agree it was a defect that got coppied

and playing my old cd back in my head... i remember the gap... but i also have an MP3 here so i played that

I don't think Count The Days has a problem on my disc but I'm interested to double check. Where in the song?

I was not being clear. Track 3 is the one with the gap and then 5 seconds latter it says "F that" again.

I just mentioned "count the days" as an example of the F word on the album

Ah, I see what you mean.

When you look at the wav file in a audio editor like SoundForge, you can actually see a cut between "mama" and "that". Nothing else in the file looks like it.

The "gap" in track 3 of Exodus is a mastering error on the Edel CD release and does not appear on the vinyl version or the Australian CD. It just HAPPENS to fall mostly over a "Fuck" but, given the amount of profanity all over the rest of the album, this was most sertainly not a purposeful edit or censoring.

Just throwing this out as a theory but... There are plenty of examples of Prince & Sonny T swearing on the album. During the segue isn't it Michael B talking? Is it possible he requested his cussing be edited?

Except that it wasn't. Some of Tora Tora's line ("last night") and only MOST of that word were cut. Sloppiest edit ever, if it were an intentional edit.

Given that this glitch only appears on this one format from this one label - but not on any of the other formats or labels the CD was put out on, 'error' is a more reasonable explanation than 'edit'
