Great Interview with Rolling Stone 1985 Here is a link to an interesting interview with Prince in 1985 with Rolling Stone magazine:- http://www.rollingstone.c...n-19850912 Consists of Prince driving around Minnesota showing sites he remembers from growing up and then meeting up with his father and talking about him; as well as neighbourhood kids reaction to seeing the star passing by.

Really interesting bits are when he drives next to two blondes and deliberately throws something just to see them surprised by who it is; him describing his dad's way of saying he loved him and how he believes that his dad kicked him out really because he was particular about personal space; and a description of Prince's house inside; he gives a vague answer as to why he didn't have many friends visit; and hw he'd counsel obsessive fans.

This is pretty standard fare for Prince fans. It even was in 1985, because he'd not given an interview like that in...forever? Or at least a very long time. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

. In the 80s, while I was still in high school, I had two huge scrap books. One was red, and one was purple. The red one was MIchael Jackson (because he wore red jackets in 2 of the 3 videos from Thriller), and the purple was Prince. . Those were the days of getting Columbia House or BMG Music Club fliers is almost every Sunday paper. For a long while, they would put Purple Rain up in a larger picture to draw attention to joining the club. I would snip out those larger pics and pepper them throughout the scrapbook. Any article or news clipping went in that thing. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

It seems tame today, but back then that interview was a big deal. I remember being a kid running to the newstand to pick that issue up. No internet back then, so magazines and MTV were the main sources for anything P related. He opened up a lot in that interview and said some cool things..he seemed like a normal, down to earth guy...but still a little eccentric.

Rolling Stone has done some really great pieces on Prince. Can't wait to read this one as I don't think I have before.
...Actually, I've only ever read excerpts of this! Never the full thing. All that stuff about his dad was so sweet! [Edited 5/26/16 10:14am] In my heart, I know you're somewhere laughing in the purple rain...

Wow. What he was saying about producers taking over the business in 85 shows how smart and ahead of his time he was.It was chilling when he was talking about falling over dead after fading out a song.

I love how he talks about his neighborhood -pointing out his school and church, amd the kids on bikes who wave and say hello and he says hello back ...so casual, so suburban, so VERY 80s!!! ... Awesome that he stayed where he grew up. And I love the insights into his dad and his relationship with him. -even just how he tosses him the new tape Wendy and Lisa hadnworked on and his dad catches it with one hand. And his dad saying how he would be deatroyed if something happened to Prince. ...It is nice to see this sort of thing, along with stuff that his friend and lawyer Londell has said, that suggest that Prince Enjoyed his life. Makes the dying at a youngish age less tragic. I still will be forever upset, however, that I missed his recent show in Melbourne ...if I had checked my emails at the right time, or even the Arts Center website a week earlier I could have gone. Sounds like a lie, but I swear that something pulled me to pay more attention to the Arts Center right around the time of Feb, around his concert. It may have been coincidence, but I like to think that I felt something was up . ...pity my timing was a week off. [Edited 6/2/16 4:56am]
