People!

Let's not get our knickers in a twist because one magazine hasn't given it's whole front cover to Prince.

There could be many good reasons why Mojo made this decision - the Dylan front cover could have been a done deal, or maybe they wanted to differentiate between themes and all the other Prince covers on the shelves.

As it happens, I flicked through Mojo's tribute, and it's quite good. Some good stories about pivotal moments in his career.
It's been too long since you've had your ass kicked properly:

Look, Mojo ain't putting Prince on their cover because he simply doesn't sell. Whereas Dylan does. They've said this over and over whenever someone complains there's yet another Beatles or Stones or Pink Floyd cover: those issues sell.

.

In the end they need to abide by the marketplace, plain and simple. They're one of the few surviving music mags and they'll do whatever's necessary to keep on publishing.

I would say you're right, this magazine is of course aimed at rockers, but... Uncut is also a rock magazine and they did put Prince on the cover. And I also have Mojos with Marvin Gaye or Sly Stone on the cover. In this case, yes, they could have done better, but I like both Prince and Dylan, so I'm not gonna make a big deal out of it. And Dylan has a new album out, that may also have something to do with it. Anyway, as Bo Diddley said: you can't judge a book by looking at the cover!

I think you're correct that the Dylan cover was probably a done deal: it's exactly 50 years ago that Blonde on Blonde was released and they obviously had big plans to do a special on that.

They look amazing and sad at the same time. I bought 3 specials over last 2 weeks; Time and Newsweek both did full magazine tributes. ClassicPop did a wonderful full magazine to him last week.

To your 1st sentence you are so right!

Which ones are worth getting? I got the Time magazine, which i thought was pretty tasteful and had some new info and nice pictures. Q seemed like they didn't have much new to add to what they previously published.

I didn't find People Magazine worth buying. Lots of photos and no article was longer than two pages!

They put Bob Dylan on the cover because it was his 75th birthday on May 24th.

lol Exactly. Also, no interest in any magazine unless it is a commemorative issue. Meaning, only Prince and no advertisements. For all anyone knows, Mojo is working on that right now. The only non-commemorative issues I purchased was the RS Richard Avedon cover (because it's my favorite photo of him) and the New Yorker (again, great cover). I'm surprised people didn't lose their shit because the New Yorker didn't have a photo of his face on the cover. Or something more than one page in tribute.

I love how folks just expect businesses to stop what they are doing -- break contracts -- and throw something together in a half ass (People Magazine) manner.

Why do folks believe that they are owed something for their fandom of an artist? Kind of boggles the mind. Maybe it's something to do with age, or lack of maturity. Who knows.

Wasn't it just last year or the year before Mojo had Prince on the cover with a big piece inside. I think it was around the time of the 3EG shows.

.

Just sayin' - when was the last time any of these other magazines had him on the cover?

It sort of makes me angry. Most of these magazines wouldn't give Prince a cover when he was alive.
Someone told me Conde Nast Traveler even had a Prince tribute issue.

WTF does Conde Nast know from Prince? Visit beautiful Chanhassen?
