BBC text review of 'The rainbow children'

Hi,
BBc teletext page 'the vibe' (text pg364) have a review of the rainbow children album. Due to the space restrictions offered by this service, the review is not that in-depth, more brief comments. However, it is glowing.

'the purple one returns with his rightful name and a deeply spiritual album - and its his best in years. his jazz/funk is so toe tappingly catchy, and there is something for fans of all his periods here - even if the distorted voice grates a little.

Its the lovely application of his insrumental genious - from marimba through tremelo organ - that delights. Furthermore, he hasnt consigned melody to the past, layering it on in unique style.

The work pt1 is big and james brown like, while 1+1+1=3's rhythmic yet off the wall guitar and vocals make the jaw drop with awe. And its fun!

The gospel inspired vocals and princes trademark layering work well too. When the mellow deconstruction runs into the gillbert and sullivan snippet that is wedding feast, you know that princes tiny size bellies with huge genius.

this is a record that will, if you let it, broaden your musical horizons.

Just a dream - The Rainbow Children, upon its official European release, becomes an underground hit in Europe. Additionally, the release of ONA live on DVD spices things up. Prince regains his position in Europe that he had from 1987 to 1993. And we have something to rave about.

but as I said - it's just a dream sad

This is an age old review though, Ceefax's music pages aren't even on that page now, reviews start at #562.

Well there isn't a page 364 on Ceefax and page 564 of the music pages is for singles only.

"The Vibe" is a discussion page on 561.
