If they don't do the test ,they won't get anything. I don't know about American law.

In many states in the US, the laws have not kept up with technology. Duane's descendants are stating that by providing birth certificates, they are satisfying Minnesota law for presumption of paternity. Personally, I think that if they were confident that they were blood relatives, they would not object to the tests.

Wait. A few days ago we debated whether Duane was a biological sibling or an adopted sibling. Either way, if he was a sibling, his children stand to inherit.

So if he's adopted does that disqualify them? This who thing is just tragic... They are going to try to split Prince's entire life in 20 pieces. All said and done, they will each get 5.00 and a chunk of a cloud guitar. and the estate will just bleed money. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

I don't know how it works legally but it seems to me that they should inherit even if they are not blood --- Obviously P liked Duane and considered him "family" as he employed him and seemed close to him. Well, I don't think Prince was really close to any of his family but at least you saw Duane, he worked as his bodyguard and ran the NPG store in Minneapolis.

Somebody said Tyka was at the last PP party is that true? I mean I guess he had some sort of relationship with them, but obviously they werent close or he wouldnt have died alone in an elevator

Unless that little girl isnt really Duane's. if Duane were liviing he would still inherit I believe as long as he's a legally recognized sibling (blood or not). "Where you are now is in a place that does not require time." - Rest In Power, PRINCE

Didn't Duane sue him and spill his dirt to a lawyer who at one time also represented Prince who then spilled the dirt to the press? Boo. What a bunch of malarkey. Surprise, surprise.

We are all getting lessons in Probate Law - specifically probate law in Minnesota. (Each country tends to differ - each state tends to differ - even each county can differ.) RIP Prince. We will NEVER forget you. Thank you so much.

I agree. This situation is exactly why everyone needs a will, but especially so, if your family situation is as complicated as Prince's.

Some people were trying to say that if Duane was adopted by John L. Nelson, then he wouldn't be in line to inherit. But that's untrue. Adopted siblings are treated just the same as biological siblings.

So the plot thickens. | |

RiotPaisley--- I think he did sue him but that doesn't mean anything. A lot of people sued Prince and if what I read in Ronin Ro's book is true, Paisley Park didn't seem very organized when it came to paying people (as it was a revolving door according to the book) and sometimes people weren't paid what they were owed. We don't know the true story. Maybe Duane was rightly owed money that he wasn't paid. It doesn't mean P didn't think of him as family or as a brother.
