but when I listened to the Love Symbol even more than I had any album previously, including D&P which I thought I couldn't play possible even more lol, I knew I was in for the long run

1997. I grew up of course loving the MTV videos and hits but it all really clicked for me in 1997 and tbh I don't even remember why or how. Just finally got wise somehow lol. Perhaps part of it was that I was newly out of college and more isolated than I had been before in terms of always having friends around me and, frankly, none of my friends had ever been big Prince fans so maybe it was me having more space to explore my own thing and learning more about myself without so much influence from others. Towards the end of that year, I was able to see Prince in concert for the first time! Exciting times, I keep going back to that concert, that night, in my head, somewhat wishing it were then! Even though I'm in a much better place personally now, in light of what's happened, I kind of wish I could go back to that .

Back in 1981 I imagine my aunt was listening to some dreadful guy wearing a knitted sweater, casual slacks and slip on shoes... sitting by an open coal fire singing middle of the road crud. Not cool at all, and no Do Me Baby anywhere in sight. I think she'd have died of shock had you played her Jack U Off or Sexuality.
