2007 is when I became a fan after the Superbowl. It's not the first time I heard of him at all, but 2007 was the year I really discovered him and his music. I believe my earliest memory was hearing the 1999 song in 1999 because of the fear of the year 2000. They were playing it all the time

1979 was cool because it was my intro, but I have to agree with 1984. That was just an unbelievable time.

1991

My first P experience was Diamonds and Pearls on release, and never looked back. Starting with that album I bought the back catalogue and any associated stuff.

I come from a mostly hard rock background, but the UTTER GENIUS of albums like Sign O' The Times and tracks like I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend just made me go eek

1983. Just prior to my 14th birthday.

I heard Little Red Corvette on the radio here in the U.K and I was hooked. Got the 1999 album for my 14th birthday that year and there began 33 years of buying every new Prince album that became available. I'd love to say that back in '83 I knew that Prince was about to explode and become a worldwide sensation and pretty much be the star of the 80's, but the truth is I had no idea. I just knew I loved his music.

1984.

That summer of 1984.

When Doves Cry.

17 Days.

Purple Rain.

And then 1985......Raspberry Beret, Paisley Park....I still remember listening to those songs and how it felt to listen to them back then.

I lost interest in Prince´s music when I got very involved in the Hip Hop scene around the same time. The reason for that is that I found Prince too "pop", less funk, less RnB, less electronic than in 1983-1985 , and Parade and all that followed was music that I still liked but I lost track for a couple of years until a friend of mine who is a hardcore fan made a mixtape for me that got me hooked again.

I despised the Batman era but really liked the SOTT era, and while I liked Lovesexy, it took me a couple of years to fully appreciate it.

Still have that tape that I got from my friend.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

1993, I was 11, my older brothers were heavy into Lovesymbol. I definitely knew WDC already, but couldn't connect the dots. 2001 my interest reached critical mass, the tipping point where I started collecting Prince albums. 2004, caught the Musicology tour in TO, started lurking on the Org thereafter.

"Soft & Wet" was on the radio when I was HELLA YOUNG, I always liked the singles & he was like no one I'd ever seen before - I dug him as a kid! 1999 was my first secret purchase but I'd say his hooks were firmly in me in with Controversy in 1981. I had to sneak listens of my sisters copy, Do Me Baby could only be played at a whisper falloff So I was already nuts by the time PR hit (I was 13), & I started collecting as much as my allowance would let me, & was very proud of my tiny back-catalogue lol
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

1981. Controversy was a big radio hit along with Cool (my theme song at the time). When I found out they were basically by the same person as I was hooked for life.

This is obviously a competition, so I'll say 1957 when Prince was conceived.

Or 1984, about a year after hearing either 1999 or Little Red Corvette. (I wonder which one I heard first.) By the end of 84, I was all in, though I still hadn't managed to track down a copy of For You, which I don't think was released until later.

There was a long courtship, started dating in '78, got exclusive in '80, got engaged in '81, made a life commitment by '82, had a couple of breakups, went our separate ways, but they never lasted long, I always came back, gave up trying to leave by '98, he could do whatever he wanted after that I didn't care I knew I was here to stay.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

Hmmmmm, it's hard to pinpoint a particular year but I remember my dad listening to Musicology alot when I was a wee youngling. It wasn't until I got my own iPod in 2007 and loaded some Prince tunes on it myself that I started to dig him more. boogie fallinluv
