Anyone else more in awe

Since April 21st I have watched so many YouTube clips and listened to Prince's music almost non-stop. L.A. Reid said in an interview that now that Prince is gone his music somehow sounds better and in a strange way I agree. Who else has made albums and played every instrument? Who else can do melodies and counter melodies, lead vocals and background vocals and make it all seem perfectly effortless? I was listening to Crystal Ball on my way to work this morning and was thinking this is not just a song it's an experience. I've been a huge Prince fan for years and years but now, listening to his music I'm even more in awe of him.

I don't know if this makes sense to anyone else.

You already thought he was great but now realise he was even greater? It happens!

I've not listened to him this much since i was a lot younger. I've watched him or listened to him consistantly, every evening for a month, That's something I've not done in years, since i was a teen in 1989!

The other year I said i'd not listened to 20Ten since it came out, well, I've litened to it 6 times in the last month and i really quite like it now. Same with N.E.W.S. dug that out and 'East' is fantastic. I wouldn't say i slept on his later music, i bought it all to show support. I did regretfully neglect it as life is busier, but yeah, I've certainly made time for it since he passed...and it's mostly just great, great music! music

For me, it's all of the new uploads spanning 30+ years being uploaded on YouTube all at once, which shows how he grew as an artist and evolved as a human .. and to simultaneously face the reality that he's gone is a lot to process. So yes, his level of talent and gift to this world do seem more obvious to me, (especially after what was on display on the BBMA on Sunday.)

Show your heart to me.

His other recordings that I had put aside ("3121".."Planet Earth"..."Rave"..."MPLS") I've gone back and revisted. There are some good moments on those discs....I've even warmed up (a little) to the "Come" record after years and years of bashing it.

Yes, it's amazing how so much music came out of one body. Too bad his brain wasn't donated to science!

True. He defintely was a genius and it's not just throwing the word around, it's true. I was looking at a rehearsal from the Musicology Tour and just to hear him play was amazing. It was said that he said he was more of a colorist when it came to the piano. Personally I think he brightened music up with any instruments all the way especially even more so live.

Paul McCartney did that years before Prince.

Todd Rundgren did the one man band in the early 70's. And Sly played nearly every instrument on "Riot". We all know P was a huge fan of both artists.

mccartney did even though his solo work gets viciously dogged.

I don't understand why people don't rave over this record. To me it is one of his greatest. Song after song is top stuff. Plus it has the super smooth "Space" - one of his best songs and one of his best vocals. The "I've had dreams of us, cuddling on the planet Mars...." section is Prince vocals at their best. Begins with a gritty rasp to the vocal that smoothly goes to that sweet falsetto. "With eyes that fall somehwere..." Oh, man, heaven. Great, great song from a great, great album.

A lot of it deservedly so. He was no Prince in the solo artist department.

he still had more number one singles in a certain timespan than anyone else so he didn't do as bad as people say. I think Lionel was second only to him at one time. For whatever reason, probably because he was dead, lennon's work fares better. some of his shit was pretty damn good too, although that yoko shit churns my fucking stomach. even though some of it was catchy "ooooh yoko, ooooh yoko, sing it with me sausage man.
