Prince's Properties

I came across a recport from WCCO (CBS) Minnesota, talking about all the property, roughly $32M worth, that Prince owned, primarily in Carver County (Chanhassen area). He owned 16 properties. One that struck me was that he owned about 156 acre lot, between Lake Ann and Lake Lucy (worth about $14M). That is directly across the road from Paisley Park, looking north. It's also the back end of the Galpin property. The Galpin house (the yellow house seen in the "Gett Off" videos, inside and out) sat on a nice piece of land, and in the further distance (his literal backyard) were two lakes - Ann and Lucy. If you look at it on Google Earth, you can see how it's just land, and nothing but the lot where the house once stood has ever been developed in recent years. If you got high enough on the top of that yellow house, you could probably see the lights of Paisley Park.

.

They showed quick pictures of other homes, which were rather non-descript two-story suburban homes, built in the last decade or so.

.

The $32M properties are just in Carver county area, not stuff he imght have owned in other states. Impressive.

.

You can find the video on YouTube, on WCCO- CBS Minnesota's channel, uploaded 3 weeks ago.

.

If you enter 44°52'23.82"N 93°34'23.78"W into Google Earth, or any maps app, that will put you on top of the Galpin property. Look just east to find the two lakes, and the whole surrounding area (with no homes) for all that 156 acres. Paisley Park is just south, across Arboretum Blvd, on the corner of Audobon Rd, for those who don't know.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Interesting that you mentioned this. I just watched a interview with P from 1998 where he said they had just purchased land across from Paisley Park and were going to build a hospital and things. Guess that never happened :/

It might have made all the difference if he had built that hospital across from Paisley Park.
Grits and gravy, cheese eggs and jam...
Butterscotch clouds, a tangerine and a side order of ham.

I saw that story on youtube about his properties and that land across from PP is huge and very beautiful. Wish he had built that hospital.

Is there a link to this interview? Curious about his mention of a hospital in that area. I wish he'd traveled a few minutes down to Rochestor and checked into Mayo Clinic. They know how to handle privacy and security, and celebrities and wealthy people from throughout the world go there for care.

But it sounds like he had good medical people who tried to help him reduce his dependency on the pain meds he felt he needed to do. How difficult it must have been for the people around him trying to help but held off by the man himself. He was after all, a Minnesotan. smile Stoic.

Managing pain is like managing any chronic disease--no one would condemn a diabetic for taking insulin. Prince was incredbily courageous throughout his life. He always moved forward.

We don't know how cash strapped he might have been and maybe that is why he didn't stay in any hospital. It is so expensive and did he have health insurance? Or was everything out of pocket?

It is interesting to think about what he planned for this hospital and other services. A school, an early childhood development center, --a place for children and young people from everywhere to come and learn about music from a master-- that fits. A place for people from anywhere and everywhere to work towards peace and mutual respect... Who knows, maybe that school and international center for peace will be a reality yet. All that radiant, caring energy of the mature man cannot be lost.

Yeah, I'd be interested in that, too. It wasn't in the WCCO piece, to my remembrance.

Thank you for the link to the interview. Sounds like the hospital, daycare center and arts school were to happen through his foundation. At one point the foundation tax returns showed assets of more than $12 million but it stopped filing in 2007 or so and its tax exempt status was lost. Plans stalled out somewhere.

I wonder where the reporter got her information. She mentioned it.

When was PP closed to other recording artists? In this interview he says at this time it was available for "free" to other artists and he talked about these artists also having the capacity to press CDs.

Then there was the bittersweet comment about his performing at 60 for 18 year olds--20 years in the future at that time. The Dinosaur Tour.

"God willing I make it to 60, I'll definately be playing."

"Grandpa's cool!"

"Grandpa's cool, go right on. (smiling and chuckling) ...and grandpa will still whop their behinds."

Thanks again for the link.

New story on his philanthropy.

Prince: The Artist Now Known As A Philanthropist by Melissa Moy.

Although he may have desired to remain below the philanthropic radar, with his death, we now know that Prince was a long-time supporter of a range of causes in his native Minnesota and across the country.

I agree, his talking about rocking out with "Grandpa music" at 60 was bitter sweet.
