so disappointing to see folks tearing down the artist that Prince admired...sad

Don't exagerate -- people are mostly talking about this one performance last night, not putting down his whole career.

Stevie Wonder is one of the main reasons we had Prince. Prince would tell you that himself. No need to disrespect the man who laid the blueprint.

because it shouldn't have ever happened, it's disgusting really. i don't care if people are fans of madonna, but i am a fan of prince and you don't just get anyone to do something like that for him. i know she's an icon for many people but I could give a shit. She's nothing to me.

She is a dispicable person. What was she thinking of when she dressed like Prince, used a cane like Prince, and sat in a Purple throne? If she had even just stood next to an empty throne - the symbolism would have been totally different - it would indicate that our Prince is gone and his throne is empty. It could have been a tribute simply poorly executed. But, it was not only poorly executed by a mediocre singer, it was insulting, and worse sadistic -- the Prince sign is in burning flames behind her. What's that symbolic of -- that Prince is in Hell????? She's sick!

As far as Stevie Wonder, he was wonderful - how could Stevie be anything but wonderful. I saw him on an interview after Prince's death - where he was completely and emotionally distraught over Prince's death, and cried during the interview. I can only believe he was still overcome with grief at the loss of his dear friend and had difficulty singing because of that. In fact during the interview they ased him to sing a Price song, and he declined stating that he would just start to cry if he sang Prince's song.

If we start crying watching Prince singing - imagine how a sensitive artist would feel when paying triubte to a dear one they loved who is now gone -- Stevie gets a Pass. But, the heartless, self serving witch does not!

Total crap. Stevie is every bit as talented as Prince is. His musical legacy will last longer than Prince's too. Marvin Gaye was a greater artist than Prince. Prince never came close to creating an album on par with "What's Going On". Michael Jackson was a greater entertainer and singer. Freddie Mercury was a genius. Bob Dylan is more important and a superior songwriter. Jimi Hendrix blows Prince away as a gutarist. And it goes on. Prince was a great musician and songwriter but people make too big a deal about his ability to play multiple instruments. Prince is one of the greats but it's just fanatacism to act like he was peerless.

How would you, or anyone else, know how long his musical legacy will last compare to anyone else's? You have some power to see into the future?

You know who's more "important?"

Are you just a fool or just a troll?

Agree to disagree. No chance Prince was "greatest ever". I stand by what I wrote. Prince was one of the greats but will never be thought of as the greatest outside this silly forum. I love Prince's music. For 30+ years I have but I have no qualms about saying Freddie Mercuey was a greater vocalist. No qualms about saying Marvin Gaye was more soulful and deeper. No qualms about saying Prince couldn't play guitar like Hendrix. He couldn't dance or thrill like Michael Jackson. He isn't as funky as JB and George Clinton. Prince could do it all but that doesn't mean he did it all better.

Funny thing about all those mentioned...Elvis Presley has been dead just about 40 years and still makes news & money.

He was barely in it, so doesn't get much of the blame.

.

It was just weird too how they kept singing "Purple Rain..Purple Rain" over and over again at the end. That's not even how the song went.. maybe a couple of times but once you get beyond that, it didn't even sound right...should have been a guitar solo or something there. It was just dumb.

Good question. While I found Madonna totally average and the performance was predictable and "meh", I didn't find it offensive at all or in bad taste. It was simply a formulaic tribute to a fallen icon. IF you take issue with Madonna, there's no reason to not take issue with Stevie. He wa equally average or "bad" by some people's account.

Well, yes.
It was bad. And I mean bad bad.
Vocally, both sounded like crap.

I dunno what is wrong with saying that, regardless the merit somebody has. If it sucks, it sucks.
How much I admire Prince, believe me, I wasn't jumping for joy when I heard Purple & Gold for the first (and last) time.
