ya, the day Prince died, i was lucky, i'm in seattle, the time's former keyboardist, the quite capable Mark Cardenas plays at the club i go to. Ironically, i requested Purple rain a week to the day prince died and they did a scintillating version. I have to say they did him justice. i never liked purple rain, and although i've learned to play many prince songs and it has been suggested before that I learn Purple Rain, I think I'll do a cover but I tend to take my time with covers and not just piece together the chords and leave everything else out, you really can't do a song justice like that.

I was watching the Today Show this morning while they were discussing Madonna's tribute to Prince. Willie Geist said it best "It's tough to repaint a perfect painting ". I think people mean well when they try to do their little tributes or whatever, but no one can sing a Prince song like Prince. We all want to watch tributes because we love P., but we know that most people will never come close to doing him justice.

i play keys, i've already thought out how I want to arrange it. I always thought Prince's piano rendition in the movie was the best i ever heard the song so that'll be the intro, then I'll go into the rest. not sure what I'll do about the solos yet, guitar solos are tricky when transferred to piano, sometimes they just won't work.

ya, it's true, i've been playing prince music for over 20 years, but there is no way it ever comes close to him. Still, I don't think I have ever gotten crowds on my side more than with his music. I wanna be your lover is the one I always go back to if I start to lose them and it always works.

I live directly across the street from a pub. Saurday and Sunday are Karaoke night. I've heard Purple Rain being drunkenly murdered 3 times since Prince's passing.
