Prince is slighted by Charlie Wilson

His comments were leading and uncool. He didnt know Prince but - like so many people now - speaks as if he had some inside information or status that allows him to speak with some authority on the memory of an legend. He isnt good enough to carry Prince's luggage so he needed to shut up and just keep doing his stuff on the old school chitlin circuit.

What did he say?

Remember, The Gap Band dissed Prince back in the day on the "Disrespect" song. There was a whole animated video making fun of him.

I didn't see the video, but it is extremely premature to make statements like "what goes on (happens) in the dark..." That's just a pompous, "Look at me, I was strong enought to make it through" type of mentality. Certainly not warranted. Again, I didn't see the video, just responding to your statement.

Prince and The Gap Band (Charlie Wilson) have had beef for years...they clowned Prince in one of their old videos...i read somewhere else, that back when Prince first came out, they did some kind of event together (record store autograph signing?), and Charlie Wilson felt disrespected...not surprised

after watching/listening to the video, Charlie didnt really say anything inflammatory or disrespectful...he may have wanted to...but he consciously self-censored what he said, despite what ill will may remain from the late 70s

Wow, I expected more from Uncle Charlie. I like his music but dude came across as very disrespectful and seems like he thinks he is some authority on drug addictions. Yea we know you messed up but you got yourself clean and props to you for that but why did he feel the need to throw shade at P?. I mean prescription drugs are needed for pain relief etc and are for medical reasons so he can't really compare his addiction to what Prince was dealing with. Disappointed with Charlie I thought he was above that. What's his beef with P all about anyway?

It is either ignorant or flat out disrespectful to make such an uninformed statement at this time. You can tell he had some issue with Prince when he referred to him as pretty boy. Keep in mind that he was buddies with Rick James - Prince's arch nemesis for decades. Its a low class, crackhead move and that is what Wilson is.

you're right on all accounts...i just feel like he showed more restraint than i expected, based on his past disdain for Prince, and his past as one of Rick James homies...i damn near expected to see video of him pissing on PurpleRain CDs, whilst singing "Outstanding"

Hey, watch it now, I live in Neckbone, Mississippi...But, your point is absolutely right. Okay, so now I got to go and make sure the road is clear of farm animals so that Charlie Wilson can bring his wack ass back to Neckbone.

I saw the video on youtube a few weeks ago and just thought who the hell is he to judge without knowing all of the facts. With him being a recovering crackheaded junkie, I would've thought he'd be a bit more humble, or show compassion, maybe give Prince the benefit of the doubt - guess not. Jealousy always brings out the worst in people.

Why is restraint even required? A legend is dead a couple weeks and we cant expect him to just shut the hell up if he has nothing sincere and good to say until the tributes and mourning over? Either that are be man enough to shit on Prince if that is what you feel, Charlie - dont take the punk ass crackhead side swipe as if you are some judge with authority on drugs or Prince.

Watch it again, like MJ007 said "JEALOUSY brings out the worst in people". And its obvious Charlie has always been jealous of Prince. He’s talking like he got the autopsy report in front of him. He needs 2 stfu already neutral

You guys are being too hard on Wilson, and understandably so. He doesn't say anything that
was just completely out of order except for comparing his pain tolerance with Prince's tolerance.
Other than that, there is something to his point that eventually, even for very private people who
spend their entire life/career keeping bits and pieces of their personal life away from the public,
sooner or later, the public will or could discover those bits and pieces. Oh yeah: comparing his
"laundry" to Prince's "laundry" is inconsiderate and unfair of Wilson to the dearly departed who
cannot defend himself.

Didn't one of Prince's bodyguards come out and claim that he never saw Prince using/abusing
drugs? Well, that doesn't prove anything other than he didn't see Prince using/abusing drugs.
So, ease up on Wilson just a bit for if Prince didn't buy into his mystique, maybe he could have
received the help he was seeking. I still think Prince missed an opportunity here: if he stayed
in Molina to receive the treatment he needed yet the public discovered that he may have been
dealing with a substance abuse problem, think of all the people his story could have helped. But
because he was so private and probably didn't want to disappoint his fans or come across as a
hypocrite, he kept his struggles private and quiet, and sadly, passed away in part because of
that strict adherence to his privacy. Hmm, on second thought - maybe Wilson is indeed being
just a tad bit condescending here. Yeah, he definitely is.

I respect your points but you're making assumptions just like CW. We don't KNOW the facts. CW and Prince weren't friends so why make such statements like he has some insider information. Even those closest to Prince are puzzled, so CW can take a row of seats. Prince was private about his philanthropic work, so why in the heck would he be public about anything else in his personal life. If anything, the man was consistent that it was his music he was sharing but his private life was his.

We don't know all the facts, yes, this is true. But we do know that Prince was found with Percocets
on his person; that there was a gentleman with Bupes on his person who discovered Prince; that
his airplane had an emergency landing in Molina; that Prince was seen filling several prescriptions
in pharmacies; and that Prince had issues related to hip pain. We also know that the DEA is involved
with investigating his death. So we don't know exactly what killed Prince or why/how he perished,

but we can start to make educated guesses that Prince may have had a substance abuse problem

due to a dependence on opiate based pain medication.

Your point about Prince's privacy regarding his philanthropy actually goes a long way into showing
that if he was private about his charitable works, what makes you think he was NOT going to be
public about any alleged substance abuse issue? He played his hand close to his chest and the rea-
son why most of us are shocked is because we never imagined Prince dealing with alleged substance
abuse issues. Addiction does not give a fuck if you are Prince or the homeless lady under the bridge
who will die alone in the cold.
