If you want to really get into it, then a huge world of wonders awaits u. There are so many concerts, rehearsals, outtakes, etc and so many of them are just stellar...heck a slammin.

Good luck. Most of them are already missing from YT. Someone on YT said the folks from prince.org were reporting them and getting them taken down 😕 I watched what I could. And i am more than willing to buy and own them legit but how does one do that? It still irks me that Prince was/is so unwilling to share stuff w/his fans, or makes it extremely difficult for the fans to buy this work of his. Back to the original question: I loved the rehearsal shows a lot that they would do in preparation for touring. Especially the one from First Av in the early 80's billed as a benefit concert. So raw, energetic, intimite. It was Wendy's first show with the revolution after Dez left.

It's definitely a scavenger hunt. So far I got my hands on Small Club and the First Ave Aug 3, 1983 show. Incredible. I've got a whole list goin' thanks to this thread, hopefully I can find a good amount of these.

From now on, 4 U I shall be wild 💜

There are a lot that I love, but nothing compares 2 the '84 birthday show. And 4 me, here's why.

1) "When Doves Cry" is out, and dominating everything. But the album and movie are still on the horizon. You can tell that P knows this is right before everything changes and he becomes an international superstar. He knows the album is good, he knows the movie is testing well. And he and the Revolution are just stellar.

2) The large number of 'one time only' songs. Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden, All Day All Night, Noon Rendezvous. Possessed, which got played more than once, but was still a definite rare number.

3) Noon Rendezvous may be one of the best Prince moments of all time. Everybody now- "Sitting in the cafe, waiting 4 my baby..." Magic.

4) The hiccups, the strange moments, the shade thrown- All of it unique.

Once upon a time in a haystack of despair; happiness sometimes hard to find, yeah.

Small Club remains my favorite, but like a couple of others who've posted above, I'm totally loving Montreux 2009 thee days. Two shows, fantastic performances, really interesting setlists, and while I personally am more of an audio person, the pro-shot video is a great bonus. The sound is very good too, although a little muffled. Some tasteful EQ - 1-2dB cut in the mid-bass and a 2-3dB boost in the upper-mids and treble - balances it out nicely and gives it just enough high-end sparkle to sound like an official release.

Listened to a 'Whole lotta love 4 Paris' for the first time in awhile. Though not a soundboard, that is an amazing show and recorded very well. Sounds great to these ears.

.

I sometimes wonder what the tapers used to record some shows.

It is a scavenger hunt for a while but it is soooo worth it. I remember starting out with Small Club years ago and now have multiple hard drives full. Once you find the right places, the purple music will flow!!!!!!!!!!

Birthday show '86 in Detroit (suprised that I haven't seen anyone mention this one). As far as I know, it's the only show (or tour) where he never picked up a guitar.

This has always been one of my favorites. It's circulating in full.

I don't know where we stand with videos at the moment, but I'm assuming if it's on a heavily policed site like youtube then it must be ok...

I fucking love this thread.

I really dig the pre-Purple Rain era shows: the above mentioned Dirty Mind, Capitol Theatre, and 1999 Homecoming concerts - it's the surprise of not knowing what's coming, they're still relentless, and they show how many hits/cult favorites he had in the repetoire before superstardom.

I also love the Sign O' the Times movie, even though it's a clusterfunk.

This was in 1994 on French television in "Nulle Part Ailleurs", it's brilliant, thanks for posting it! Been watching the rehearsal too (One Eyed Jam & Acknowledge Me), which I had never seen before.

There are so many of them, it's impossible to decide which one is my favourite, but Montreux 2009 and Small Club seem to stand out amongst the lot.

I will never see him at Paisley Park or see a Piano & Microphone show so the fact I was at both these events is bringing me comfort. I'm watching/listening to all the YouTube stuff & reminiscing about all my favourite shows & the people I went with & the new purple friends I met!!

Loving all of the Montreux 2013 .. 3 highly recommended links

1) Prince - Montreux Jazz Festival 2013 (a video montage of great moments)

2) Prince - The Love We Make - Live Montreux 2013 (a beautiful up close, high-quality video of him on the keyboards ... one of my favorites)

3) Prince - Live Montreux 2013 Disc 1 (of 5) .. 5 total links ... amazing audio that includes covers of some of MJ's and Janet Jackson's songs .. he's just having a great time playing and with the audience

Enjoy!

Thanks for this thread. In addition to those already mentioned, I really like videos from some of the later concerts, they have such a relaxed vibe - Red Sea festival (3 full concerts up last time I checked) in particular the second one with andy allo (the duet dancing close and slow is so beautiful). Also really like the Manchester 2014 shows for the more rock vibe and the audience response.

Still waiting to see some piano and microphone...

The last show is available online. Audio only. It would be a nice show if it wasn't so sad. cry

Right now...has to be the Paisley Park rehearsals with Mono Neon, Donna & Kirk. The Hit-n-Run Phase 1 tracks sound amazing in their live instrumental renditions.

Ha ! If one can find the right places .
What I did have on my old computer was just another fatality to a house fire two years ago. I actually realize more and more what stuff was lost that you don't think about until you go looking and remember...oh ...I don't have that anymore .
But we are alive and well and that is all that matters .The rest is just stuff..

But damn, I wish I still had my stuff !
I'm spinning my wheels looking for stuff lol

I agree...the musicianship was amazing. His guitar work was so clean.

I also love the Hitnrun tour from 2000. He was at an interesting place in his life and you can tell he was bringing the music back to it's naked core. I like it when he handles both lead and rhythm guitar work. And btw, Geneva is very sexy.

Montreaux 2009 is brilliant. Haven't see all of 2014.

NSJ 2 really great.

Can't help watching Controversy b/w old one and parts of Lovesexy again and again too.

The Big city Jam at PP without Prince also in b/w quite recently is super as well.

Acoustic sections from Musicology...

Just haven't got to them all yet, but NSJ 2 definitely the favourite so far. (2013)
