Price-gouging on Prince items

Has anybody else been getting as mad as I've been seeing people try to profit off Prince's death? I know people gotta eat but most of it is just greedy, and sometimes outright dumb. A local record store owner near where I live marked up his copies of Purple Rain by 50%... on a record that sold billions and of where there are still plenty of copies. But it could be worse - on the day he died, a friend of mine posted to Facebook that somebody on eBay was asking an absurd price for a (allegedly) mint copy of PR, like $700 "or best offer." My friend posted a screenshot of himself making an offer of $5 to this !&@&#$, which I thought was pretty funny.

It's also irritating because, although I've been a fan since I was 9 years old, I don't have *everything*, and in particular would like to fill in the gaps on some maxi-singles I've wanted forever. I have a hunch that the profiteering will slacken off once it's no longer profitable, though. There's only so many fools willing to part with $700 for a copy of Purple Rain, after all.

I hear you.
I started really getting Prince's CDs and Vinyl around 2014. And going through his catalog is like a journey. So I've took my time with it. The things that I don't have are the ONA Live 3 disc set (but I fortunately found the After-Show "It Ain't Over" CD separate), New Power Soul, Rave In2 the Joy Fantastic, and Planet Earth to name a few.

Where I went to get them is Amazon. And on there sometimes I found good deals. Like for example, I got "The Gold Experience" used, but in good quality for about $15 once and that thing is out of print lol Now everything is expensive. So, I guess I'll have to wait until I find a good deal someday lol

Sorry, I would say "I didn't say that thread" but I think I actually did, while my head was still in a fog in the first 72 hours of.... what happened. I guess I was surprised to still see it happening, particularly at a local level. It will stay that way for a while, probably.

Can a mod delete this thread then?

I think it makes me too mad...

Plus I think of all the vinyl I've passed up over the years because I already owned a copy but could use a backup now, or because I already owned a title on CD and wasn't always the kind of person who had to have everything on all formats.

Well, there are already plenty of re-releases scheduled this year before he passed. Depending on the greed of the estate/trust, we can expect remasters and more. I'm not buying anything until that's all been sorted out.
