Everyone has a different idea of when P "jumped the shark' I don't think he ever did and I can't say that I've really disliked anything although some of his albums just never caught me, the lotusflower thing with the horrid bria set was a lowpoint for me and chaos and disorder never caught me but i don't even know if that's because of all the negativity i've heard or the album itself, some of his albums, for some reason, i never really did listen too. then others, most i'd say, i'd wear out.

Am I the only one here that had only gone to see the film because Prince had written the soundtrack?
As for the album, The Future has remained one of my all times favs, I listened to it a few days ago and thought it still sounds good after all these years. I can't really say that about the rest of the songs on this album though. Life Matters

. Yeah, and now imagine how even less it would have sold if it were called A.T. and had nothing at all to do with the film. . So let me get this straight. Your position is that tie-in products to super successful films only sell well if that tie-in is of high quality? You've got to be kidding. I (and millions of others) have some real shitty MEGO Planet Of The Apes action figures that prove your "theory" is absurd. . i went to see it because it was hyped all to hell.

I think Prince's album brought some *coolness* to the movie. His "Batdance" single was THE song of summer '89.People say that he latched onto something that was bound to be massively successful, but let's give him some credit for what he brought to the table.

I can't really say that about the rest of the songs on this album though. I was a big Batman fan and a huge Prince fan, so news that he was doing the soundtrack for a more gritty Batman film was, well, music to my ears. it worked for him, like i said, too bad he squandered his clout on graffiti bridge. I will always believe he could have been a very good filmaker and sign o' the times was fanfuckingtastic. Even UTCM had really good cinemetography. His problem was he just couldn't take advice or help and had to control everything, worked with music, didn't work with cinema.

and I'll tell you something else: I think his "Batdance" music video was more fun and more exciting than the Batman movie was! I'm serious.

also, the partyman vid, which we didn't get to see much of at the time, P was rarely that open and joyous in his vids, it's refreshing to see, also a great acting performance with all the mugging for the camera. it's obvious our man had a full vocabulary of expressions as an american child of tv.

There's a long time rumour that P was briefly in the film. Supposedly he's (disguised) in one of the crowd scenes.

. You damn right it was. More fun and more exciting. You said it. . I remember walking out of BATMAN opening night and thinking, "Why is this movie called BATMAN? It should be called THE JOKER." The whole movie was Jack. Movie was a huge let down. To put it bluntly, it sucked. But at least we got a Prince CD and some Batman cereal out of it.

. What!?! Not a dark BATMAN??? . OK, compared to the Heath Ledger Joker and those Chris Nolan Batman films, yeah, the Tim Burton Batman does not appear dark. But that is looking at it from a 2016 perspective. Go back to 1989 and all we had was Adam West and Burt Ward and Cesar Romero and all that goofy WHAM! SPLAT!!! stuff...and Tim Burton's film was a new DARK version of Batman. It was seen as a really dark look at the Dark Knight. And the Prince songs -- these 1980s synth songs -- did not fit. . Watch the darn movie. The albums songs are really conveniently left out of the film. No one involved in the film was happy with what Prince came up with. Aside from "Partyman" were the album songs really front and center? -- But the songs are good and the album sold 2 million copies. In addition, the future and electric chair are not happy tunes and no one was laughing about Prince doing the soundtrack.

Let him open a thread and if you think he is trolling people should just not reply I don't think Cloreen is a troll, just like I don't think Bart was a troll or any of the other so-called haters. Everybody's got a right to state their opinion! You think Mountains was the last time Prince was really great? Go on, say it! Nothing wrong with that! -- opionions are one thing lies are another.

naw, the movie was great, deep, alot of stuff over people's heads, the idea of opposites, the confusion over who is really who which was a theme throughout the movie. the choice of michael keaton in a role where the emphasis was on real acting than on physicality. And Nicholson of course stole the show, like Morris stole Purple rain, by being the loveable, unpredictable devil.

. Hey, that's cool, you enjoyed it. Millions sure did. . I just hate superhero movies. Loved the first two Christopher Reeves SUPERMAN films. To me that's how superhero films should be done. Grand, fun entertainment. This dark crap is annoying. Yeah, wealth, super powers, get the nice looking girls, drive a bitchin' car....and Batman is gloomy. I ain't buying it. I also hate the fact that every movie that opens is a friggin' super hero movie! What are we up to now? THOR PART MCXIII?. What ever happened to movies made for adults? Boy, I would kill if someone would make a movie like THE FRENCH CONNECTION today. Nah, instead of realistic gritty dramas we get gloomy Iron Man taking on a villain from Pluto.

I haven't seen too many of them and the later batman movies weren't that good. Heath Ledger had his outstanding performance but I don't really like modern movies that much period.

. True, but that's not the way it works. . Yes, the "Batdance" single was released prior to the film. Just look at the Billboard charts and you can find the dates. Single came out June 8 and its first appearance on US charts was June 17. The film came out June 23. So, yeah, the single was out before the film. But it just was a simple chart entry before the film. . Film came out on June 23, was one of the biggest releases I can recall, all things Batman went through the roof. Then, on August 8th, was when the Prince tune made it to number 1. So, you see, the film and its overwhelming popularity carried the song to number 1. Two weeks after the BATMAN film was out, Prince had the number 1 song in the nation with a Batman song. . The song didn't create hype for the film. Sure, the idea that Prince was doing music for the film was a part of the film's hype, but the song "Batdance" itself was not driving the film. The film drove that song to number 1 two weeks after the film was released.

Same here, I remember how entranced I was with that video and the choreography at the time. It was (and still is) brilliant. Didn't think much of the film, and actually the whole time I was watching it I was wondering how long until a Prince song would come on, and thought we didn't hear enough of them. Life Matters
