Basement Rehearsal-Best Revolution performance

Out of all the live performances of Prince and the Revolution, the Basement Rehearsals stand out as the best to me. They were playing so intense and so hard, the paint was peeling off the walls. When Doves Cry sounded so raw and scorching. Prince screaming, "Don't Cryyy!!!" takes it to another level. The guitar solo on Something in the Water is insane with that Asian influenced guitar riff. Even Prince dances moves seemed more raw and playful. I almost wished they performed liked this without the costumes and big production.

Ok, I should've said the best recorded live performance. I've only seen Prince with the Revolution once so I can't account for every single live performance.

It's pretty crazy to think there could be thousands of tapes like this in the vault.

We have the soundboard audio of the show they were rehearsing for, but not video. I'd love to see that Birthday Show they did that night. It's either the rehearsal or the performance is where "All Day, All Night" was recorded, and later used for Jill Jones. I tend to believe it was the rehearsal, as to avoid any crowd noise.

.

"Our Destiny" & "Roadhouse Garden" were also recorded that day, probably in the rehearsal, and later worked on in studio. Wendy & Lisa worked on "Our Destiny" in September that year, and oversaw the recording of the strings for that song. Part of it was later used as the little piece between "Pop Life" and "The Ladder".
