Nothing Compares 2 U - Prince original

I've never heard it but I remembers rumors about Prince's original demo.

Does it exist?

Is it just him or is it a duet?

If ever a song cried out to be released this is it.

It's kind-of funny to think that, after Purple Rain, this is the song most often associated with him now, and it's all for his songwriting since no one's heard his studio version.

A released version of this would certainly be a candidate for a single release.

Paul Peterson once posted an earlier version of that song on his website (this was 12 years ago or so). It was still his vocal, but there was more percussion - a beat - to it. All of that was removed for the final version. It's interesting to hear it with just a bit of percussion and drum behind it. Not a full band sound or anything. It was almost like a ticker or a clock/metronome to keep time, but it was more than a click track.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

IIRC the story of the 1991 version for Miles was told by Eric Leeds in an interview (most likely on the Last Miles website), and he said Prince didn't want to have anything to do with it and told Eric to handle it entirely. If my memories are good I wonder y this version is listed on Princevault, but maybe I got it wrong and P was involved somehow.

According to some report P's original vocals were erased when Paul recorded his. I wouldn't be surprised if at least a cassette of it (not a multitrack) would have survived, but who knows...

It would most likely have been over the original version's music, the one mentioned above that Paul streamed in about 2002.

I don't believe it would make any sense if there was ever any posthumous single release by Prince. Albums, live shows and anthologies is what we need, some serious curating work, not singles to cash on old songs.
