Prince fan Dawn Mitchell leaves a message beside a sea of purple balloons and flowers at a memorial wall outside the Paisley Park compound of music legend Prince who died suddenly at the age of 57 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on April 24, 2016. His death came just a week after the enigmatic Grammy and Oscar winner -- acclaimed for his guitar skills and soaring falsetto -- was taken to a hospital with a flu-like illness that he later made light of.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – After Prince’s death at Paisley Park in April, fans flocked to his home and recording studio to memorialize the Minnesota music icon.

.

Fans covered the fence surrounding Paisley Park with memorials, including signs, paintings, flowers and much more. Bremer Trust, Special Administrator for Prince’s estate, announced Friday that they will preserve some of the items placed on the Paisley Park fence.

.

“Prince is an important part of Minnesota’s cultural history, and we want to ensure that these memorial artifacts survive intact,” said Bremer Trust President Craig Ordal in a press release.

An archivist and a team of volunteers will begin removing memorial items from the fence on Friday. Bremer does not plan to publicly display the items at this time, but they will be preserved for future generations.

.

Items chosen include photographs, decorative signs, paintings and flowers.

I hope Bremer treats the vault with as much care, if not more.

I really think they will. I have faith it will fall into good hands, Prince will see to it.

I think I want to move to minneapolis, they have been so repectful to Prince, I know he is there favourite son but boy have they been brilliant, he will be looking down with pride the way he has been treated.

Well, God bless Bremer Trust and Tyka for referring them to the court. This is just the level of detailed thoughtfulness I would have hoped for.

This is so moving - it would be painful to sort through it all but I understand it has to be done. Those are images I will never forget as long as I live, just as I never forgot the ones from Lady Di and Elvis - these just etch in your memory bank (but for all sad reasons).

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

This is good. They could maybe put some of the stuff in PP or a museum if they decide to open it to the public. I'm glad they are saying it all.

I was there earlier this evening. It was weird seeing it with everything removed. I left a small note in permanent marker on the wall of the bridge that passes under the main road next to PP for bicyclists and hikers as have dozens of other fans. I imagine those messages will get painted over one day soon too. I read the article above and while I hope Bremer Trust does the right thing, I'm not totally sold on them yet. They are a banking institution, a business, a corporation that's the bottom line. As far as items they choose to collect for preservation I hope they include the many handwritten and heartfelt letters, and cards people left.
