1. Age taken is age given at time of response, some recipients have aged another year since they posted, one person posted the day before thir birthday and their age was counted as they age they currently were.

2. 4 could not be worked out due to riddles, lack of statisicians knowledge of algebra and other esoteric bullshit, I can't bother to work out.

3. I assume everyone is telling truth, as it is too time consuming to see if any double posters have added their bit.

Patterns.

1. A high number of people are aged between 37 and 50, these are mostly people who became Prince fans between the 1999 and Diamonds and Pearls Albums. People aged 42, 45, 46 and 44 are very numerous, mainly as they were preteen/early teens in the lee of Purple Rain in 1984. A high number of 37, 38, 40 and 41 year olds are likely to have found Prince around the Batman and Diamonds and Pearls era, but they could have discorvered his in the interim, earlier or later. I myself are 40 and found Prince through Diamonds and Pearls. Most of my friends incredibly were hooked with the Batman album, so maybe another major "Entry" point?

2. A large group of people in their late teens and early 20s are new fans and this is refreshing to see this generation as well, along with late 20s and early 30s who found Prince in the mid 90s (Anybody a young teen who found Gold Experience - holla, you have taste!)

3. Smaller group of fans over 50, likely to be new fans discovering Prince in middle age, maybe through memories of Purple Rain era and attracted to his mature man of blues and soul persona of last few albums, also of course the originals, people who got into Prince through 4U, Prince and any other really early album - I salute you guys!

Really, the first generation that came of age during the AIDS scare. It was 1981 when I entered high school, and that's when the $hit hit the fan AIDS-wise. Culturally, for young people, it was a complete U-turn from the attitudes and practices of the high-school generation that immediately preceded mine.

I think that's why, for me, Prince's music during that time left such an imprint. It flew in the face of the fear that was being dished to my generation at every single turn. It seemed forbidden to me - dangerous - and his approach seemed (to me) to be to embrace life and explore all sides of yourself.

Aside, I also paritcularly remember Purple Rain - the movie - as an escape for me during a time in my life where everything sucked (think of that one kid in high school who was not only unpopular, but actively unpopular, the target and focus of peer persecution - yeah, that was me) and where, for the only time in my life, I seriously considered that being not alive was preferable to facing another day. In its own way, that movie - and the soundtrack - distracted me and provided an escape from the darker recesses of my mind. I will always be grateful for that.

And, it was my entree into everything else that he did. While Purple Rain certainly stands out in the public consciousness, it's not one the top 5 Prince albums for me. Interestingly.
