Rock in Rio's show-capping finale was "Jughead". And it was only the fifth or sixth least-favorite song of the night IMO. That might be one better left to the archives.

No clue. I only attended a Prince show once when I was a teenage. It was during his 6 mouth run of the Purple Rain Tour. March 18th, 1985, Nassau Coliseum L.I. N.Y. The entire concert I was completely SHELLBOUND. The man and his Revolution CRUSHED it. PERIOD! [Edited 5/22/16 17:07pm] "So here I sit in my lonely room

jazzz said: I saw Prince live about 10 times, starting with SOTT (2x) and Lovesexy (front row in the press area). These concerts were (of course) highlights in my life. My last shows were two concerts, including soundchecks, in 2002 in Antwerp and Rotterdam. Again fantastic! But to come to the question: I think the 1990 Nude tour concert I attended in Rotterdam was not so strong. I remember long waiting for the show to start, a terrible opening act, and when Prince finally appeared it started raining really hard... the show was rushed and not really long...
Yup. I was there too. I think the show on June 2nd lasted for only 45 minutes, when he suddenly quit after being soaked when he was behind his piano. Leaving everyone behind in the rain in shock. He probably didn't hear the chorus coming from the crowd when it was announced he quit and went to his hotel. The second night, June 3rd, was played entirely, again with rain and a stadium which was maybe filled for 80% or so. People probably read about the previous show in the morning papers and decided not to bother going to Rotterdam because more rain was predicted. But he made up for it by returning for an extra show in Heerenveen in August. That show was perfect. Same with the Nude show in Dortmund, which was in between the Rotterdam and Heerenveen shows. The June 3rd show great as well BTW. [Edited 5/23/16 9:51am] [Edited 5/23/16 9:53am] [Edited 5/23/16 9:54am] 'Liberate My Mind'

Went back and listened to the Welcome 2 Sydney shows from 2012 that I mentioned earlier. Awful, just as I remembered. It's strange how bad and lifeless they are, knowing 3rdeyegirl and the whole new change in direction with exciting new music is just two years away. He sounds like an imitation of himself, and the vibe is so impersonal and "stadium rock." I guess that's why he changed bands so often, and why it was so important to stay fresh... I would say so. Some of us are a bit picky about what we pick up. I hate poor quality sounding bootlegs. I'm a soundboard getter. I'l tolerate some shows that aren't soundboard too though.

I was at that show and it was no easy feat. You had to have a samsung phone, complete a scavenger hunt, be one of the first 150 people in line to pick up your wristbands for the show after youre done and be one of the first 300 people with a wristband at the venue. Luckily I was tipped off by one of the samsung employees a bit early so I was one of the first to do the scavenger hunt, but it was still about 8 collective hours of waiting in lines. Well worth it though to see Prince with Tribe Called Quest opening. Easily the best show I've ever been to in my life and by far the best Prince show I've seen. 300 people in the audience and a 3+ hour set. "Don't make me hurt you Austin. You know how many hits I got?" That line will echo in my brain forever.

Most disappointing shows for me were the UK Sign O' The Times shows and then not many years later, the Blenheim Palace concert. (For obvious reasons !)
I was so upset at the time when I heard the news!!

I went to the show at Werchter Boutique in Belgium 2010 together with my wife. It was her first and only time at a Prince concert.
I wouldn't say it was bad but it wasn't great either, of whitch he admitted later in the Belgian media. Just somewhat uninspired and with a skeleton crew band, something that really worked on the electronic fersion of Kiss at the time. Sadly my wife was not impressed and never went along after that one stating: "that paying €100 for what we got was outragious", she did have a point.... I was at the Trump Marina show, that was a great concert it was one of the only times in a small venue that things were controlled and NOT General admission, usually the times (many) I saw him if it was in a small venue it was always GA and the pushing and shoving was insane at times, but always good shows. I think the only show I was not feeling it, was Jones Beach 97 the emancipation tour, the band was flat, maybe because of the outdoors not sure, but it was not memorable at all. Yeah I have to agree as much as I love Rhonda Smith, she was stronger when she was with Renato and John Blackwell by far. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I heard that the show he had in Australia right after he heard of Vanity's death was really bad. but that's to be expected. He was in mourning.

I've been a Stones fan almost as long as I've been a Prince fan, so I'm weighing in: I really doubt it was because the core Stones fans were racist - the Stones have played tonnes of shows with black openers over the years: Ike and Tina, BB King, Stevie Wonder, Billy Preston, Peter Tosh... in fact, in their early days, they once headlined an R&B revue tour where nobody would talk to them because they were given the headliner spot over James Brown and a bunch of Motown acts (they said Marvin Gaye finally broke the ice). Stones fans welcomed these openers. BUT Stones fans by the early 1980s were cock-rockers, and despite Mick Jagger licking Ron Wood's lips on television, Prince pushed their homophobia buttons a little too far for their liking. It was "Jack U Off" that had the crowd chasing his underwear-clad ass off stage, not a "black-sounding" song, but a rockabilly song that threatened pansexuality. And yes, Jagger convinced him to go through with the second show, where fans brought shit to throw at the band. Keith - usually pretty loyal to his band and the fans - blamed Prince for trying to upstage the Stones: remember, Robert Christgau's review of Dirty Mind declared "Mick Jagger should fold up his penis and go home." Mick and Ron Wood always liked Prince.

The first Chicago show of Welcome 2 America (9/24/2012) was pretty awful. Bad sound, tech issues. (Purple Rain without a guitar solo? Yup, that happened.) Lots of unhappy concert-goers - and the press had quite a field day with it, too. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

This show at Paisley Park was pretty bad. He looked bored and pretty depressed the whole night. Y Should Eye Do That was godawful and the crowd wasn't feeling it. Prince sat and watched Geneva dance around for a bit, and I swear he just looked like he was tired of the whole thing. http://princevault.com/in...ly_2000-am "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I was at this show and I agree that the sound was bad and that PR without a guitar solo was stupid, but I was SO happy to hear him sing "The Glamourous Life" and "Jungle Love". Plus, of the three Chicago shows, his hair and outfit were best at that show.

I can relate to that 100%. I'm quite picky too when it comes to that. Soundboard recordings are my favorite ones too, but there are SB recordings where I can't hear any audience. For me it's important to hear them singing, clapping and cheering along. For me that's one of the aspects of the magic of a good live recording. There are some great audience recordings as well. The first recording of June 3rd 1990 was terrific. Perefect sound. At one point where Purple Rain starts, there's this girl askng her friend next to her: "Is this Purple Rain? Yes it is, isn't it?" Hello! For the rest, a fantastic recording, especially in comparison to what circulated after that. Many a live recording that wasn't to my liking went straight into the pedal bin. Blasphemy? Maybe. Quality is more important to me. Just shoot me 'Liberate My Mind'

I was at a show in San Diego with some sorry line up...me and my best friend went. His first Prince show. It was the shows where he sold the Supercute CD singles and stuff...I cant remember the year. Geneva was there and the fonkybaldheads and shit...it was so damn lame. The only memorable thing was I met Morris Hayes. Crazy Tall and very nice dude. Very Cool. But The Show sucked ass. Even by vegas cabaret standards...it was just wack. I was entirely unimpressed and felt bad that this was the show my homie happened to see. He ended up Catchig dude at Coachella with the whole Creep thing, So I suppose he was vindicated. But I was embarrased about this San Diego Show. The last Time I was in San Diego was for a Love4One Another Show in a College gym. Dude fucking brought down the house...inCREDible. But this second one...BLEH! The Kodak Shows in April in hollywood were tight as fuck as well as the aftershow at HOB...in fact...every other performance was great or good...but the one I went with a non-prince fan to...go figure,.... Man I loved listening to the concerts where he's irritated with the sound people because it seems like it happened far too often. The best part is that he'll just keep singing but adding in what's wrong the whole time like: "Little Red Corvette...baby you're much too...I need more guitar...yes you are..." Baby, that was much too fast... 1958-2016

I remember in '97, during The Emancipation Tour, at the date I was at in Minneapolis (December 10, 1997 I believe it was). Prince slipped and fell and made a rather large BOOM. I remember being really concerned that he had really hurt himself. But...the show itself was awesome, just one really bad fall. --If a man is considered guilty for what goes on in his mind, then give me the electric chair for all my future crimes.-- Electric Chair/Batman/Prince
