I'm certain Ceelo said "I'm the biggest fan" rather than "I'm not....". I mean he opened for Prince, they performed together and he was at the last shows in Atlanta so I think it's safe to say he is a fan. That being said, I agree his set wasn't great. I thought The Time were awesome. I expected them to be good but I really thought they were fantastic! And as for their set not being a fitting tribute to Prince, didn't Prince write 90% of their material so surely them playing their music is a tribute to Prince's music as well?

The fact that Morris Day and the Time are still out there performing Prince written songs is a tribute in and of itself. And it makes a lot more sense of Ceelo to say he is the biggest fan rather than not the biggest fan. razz

Yes, that would definitely make more sense...biggrin I thought his set was way too loud on Friday though (deafening loud) but that aside it was a great evening. My legs still hurt from all the dancing... bananadance

So quite a few copies of an Autism Rocks Prince Tribute Mix CD have ended up on eBay - were these being handed out or just for VIP ticket holders?

I'm not sure... I ended up with one that some guy just handed to me. A few moments later, they were throwing loads from the stage into the crowd during the Mark Ronson set. Haven't listened to it yet.

100% Cee Lo said he was a fan, obviously misheard by 1 or 2 people.

He also followed up after singing the beautiful ones by saying " what do you expect, Im a f****** Prince fan"

Can you imagine anyone at a tribute to anyone saying I am not a fan??

Never believed it for a second. It just didn't make sense, I mean the guy worked with Prince and he was his musical inspiration! After reading that post, I even considered that maybe he might have meant "I am not his biggest fan" (as in size) trying to be funny... or something.

It was altogether a great night, 8 of us went, only 4 P fans, but we all had a realy enjoyable time.

Agreed LG's set was a bit short, but as a tribute it was the best, the rest maybe was playing for themselves ?

Cee Lo was good, 'band' err not sure who was playing what along with the backing tapes smile

The Time was real tight.

Mark Ronson set was as expected, I and the crowd enjoyed it.

Crowd was great, you really cant beat a Prince crowd, young an old, black an white, danced for four hours!! my poor legs can testify to that!

My only gripe was AXS didnt confirm/advertise that the first band was at 7pm, tickets stated doors at 7, they emailed the day before saying doors at 6 but still failed to mention 1st band at 7 ( which is very early). I and other orgers knew this, but many people didnt, folks was coming in just before 8 asking what time was it starting etc

Roll on The revolution when they tour smile

It was the same on Friday (in bold), especially the bit about the legs... Two days on and it still hurts.
As for The Revolution... I can't wait! biggrin

This is my take on last night, long post so make sure you're sitting comfortably...ready? then I'll begon.

Went along last night with a friend(shes not a huge Prince fan but really wanted to go to the tribute night, bless her smile )

Even though we had tickets, I was still unsure I'd done the right thing in going to the night. Was it too soon? Whats if its awful?(lets not mention THAT tribute...), What if its too emotional, sad, upsetting or depressing? But we went on in to the venue, there was a good atmosphere, lots of Prince t shirts(me in my lovesexy 88 t shirt), fans chatting, people singing and all this before the gig even started.

We took our seats(yep we chose, the balcony:) we are both getting older we giggled!!! Videos of Prince were playing; SNL, Arsenio, 3rd eye girl from the previous Autism Rocks concerts and the atmosphere was good, excited, the anticipation rising.....

The lights went out and I forgot, for one moment I forgot that He wasn't here, that it wasn't Prince I was coming to see, that it won't be Prince I'll ever get to see here again and dammit it really hurt, all over again, a wave of grief so strong it knocked me on my butt.

Then Larry Graham+band came out, funking away..have to say, for me, it wasn't right...its like my brain was trained and just waiting for Prince to strut on out from stage left or right(I found myself craning around the amps to get a glimpse of him....how weird is that, I know hes not here but yet it felt like possibly he could be, like he would just come out and blast the guitar, like he always has done over the last 30 years I've seen him live...)

LG and band are good musicians and they played well but in my opinion, not that anyone has asked but I hated it when they played Purple Rain, it was too soon(for me anyway) it was too emotional, too upsetting and I bawled my eyes out. Its not that they played it badly, they didn't, its just that Prince wasn't playing it...end of. There are some songs that should never be played by others and for me thats always gonna be Princes song.

Convinced I'd done the wrong thing coming, I thought I needed to leave, my friend consoled me, giving me hugs for crying from Purple Rain;), I looked to my left and the girl sitting next to me was bawling too....we gave each other teary smiles, too soon I said? Yeah she said but we both got it and so I stayed.

Larrys reminiscing between songs irked me for some reason and I can't figure out why, but as he kept repeating he's Princes best friend and spiritual brother.

Anyway Larry Graham finished, then stage and set changed whilst more videos played along with Autism Rocks videos(awesome charity, FYI go check out their website, stellar work they do) leading into Ceelo Green, hmm, what to say....from up in the balcony sound was quite bad...often couldn't make out words unless you knew the song. Bright lights was good, he teased some Prince songs and then went into his own.

The beautiful ones, Glamorous life, forget you etc and did a very low and slower version of crazy(which despite being a Ceelo Green song has always reminded me of the O2 residency cos Shelby used to belt that song out with her awesome voice) He seemed to lose the crowd mid session and it looked like he lost his momentum too.

I was really glad they changed the original line up so he was before The Time, would have been a downer having the concert end like that but it didn't because Ladies and Gentlemen

...please welcome, The Time...........

Well, Morris and the Time stepped it up after a video montage of Morris and Prince(many of the pics Morris has had on his fb pages recently), they were great(ok they have aged since I saw them last, back in the 80's but heck who hasn't?says she who choose to sit in the balcony seats lol )

Morris still has his strut and swagger, the mirror appeared(minus Jerome:( , the bands synchronised moves and playing were great and the atmosphere rocketed. The greats were played-Jerk out, jungle love etc and everyone and I mean everyone danced the bird(along with some audience who were asked on stage). It was fun, positive and a great way to turn back time and reminisce too. It bought a lovely spirit to the event, and the crowd went wild as the set finished.

The stage was cleared and it all changed again....a mike with a huge purple love symbol appeared centre stage, lit up by purple/white spots, whils playing Purple Rain...it was moving and heart breaking too, a bump down to reality that no, Prince defintiely wasn't gonna play tonight, oh dear here come the tears again.

Morris, Mark Ronson, Ceelo and Larry came on to stand behnd it, from in the balcony it seemed genuine but I couldn't see faces that far away. It choked me when Morris left and walked off stage, like it was all to much for him, bless him.

Mark Ronsons dj set came on not long after, a whirlwind set of Prince-LRC, SOTT, Hot thing, 1999, if i was ur girlfriend.... mixed with James Brown, Missy Elliott, and a lovely little personal tribute to Prince about his influence on Marks life before playing his favourite track-how come you don't call me. The place was jumping-including the balcony to the set and the atmoshpere was awesome.

I felt something lift in me, I was glad we'd come, I'd cried, I'd laughed, I'd danced and I'd sung my little lungs, heart and spirit out; for Prince, who has been in my life for over three decades and influenced so much, without him ever knowing it of course.

I wish heaven and peace to him and love to all of us who were lucky enough to have him in our lives.

This is a great piece- well done, as you captured a lot of what I was feeling on the previous night. I also felt similarly by the end.

Am getting a bit emotional reading your post to be honest!
Best,

The counter where the records and CDs were being sold from? I had a good look around the whole lobby too and didn't see anything like that... sad
