For me, his greatest talent was song writing. He could write for any mood and put it to music that really moves you.

I can't stand solos. I always see it as just a guy jerking off. Get back to the song already! But having said that, some solos I can like. For Prince it was the closing solos on "Never Take The Place Of Your Man," and "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad." Those two are the best Prince guitar work in my opinion.

Damn, you figured me out. I can't stand Prince. But for some reason every day a new Prince release came out I'd get into my car, drive to the record store, and plunk down my money to buy a record from a guy I'm not a fan of. And what's even weirder, I'd do the same thing whenever tickets went on sale to see the guy in concert. Pay good money to sit there for three hours to watch a guy I'm not a fan of.

it wasn't just the solo, it was perfect for the song and also the soloing underneath the rest of the end of the song was just phenomenal, and no, i'm not talking his technique, the song was fantastic. that solo though was actually spliced together from two takes.

It's safe to say, and I repeat, cumulatively, he was better than everyone, everyone hands down. So, lets say that Jerry Lee Lewis could play piano better, he couldn't write, Let's say jimi played better, he couldn't play drums bass and piano or dance like Prince. Let's say James was a better dancer, he couldn't play like Prince. Been lots of talent but he's the best. I'd say for sheer charisma, in my personal opinion, only Elvis and Michael leave everyone in the dust, just my opinion. But putting it all together, Prince was better than anyone you care to mention in this style of music.

I always thought there were undertones of a great classical composer to prince, sure he played it up in his prime with the 1800's suits and it's been said he was fascinated by the movie amadeus, but he really was that exceptional. You don't find people with that kind of aura in this kind of music, the idea is almost laughable. I mean, i saw a bust of Elvis in the vein of the busts of beethoven and mozart, it was a bold statement and Elvis was great but not in the same way. Prince however always had that genius, composer, madman aura. In another life he'd have been a peer to Mozart and Beethoven.

Totally agree. Just recently I was telling someone that in the future, when they mention great composers, Prince's name will be mentioned alongside those of Mozart and Beethoven.

I read it on here semi-recently, but i had to search for it. but the guitarists here were saying that it wasn't Prince, so it's a possibility.

he was, but you know, as I've grown older, I've seen myself you can't really be a nice guy and get anywhere. Especially with musicians, they all think they're the shit so you pretty much have to be an asshole. I think there were exceptions for Prince, he has said there is no need to tell a Maceo anything, he already knows what needs to be done. but the stories of him just drilling people to no end are legendary. When I was a sweet kid, wet behind the ears, I was horrified reading those stories about my hero, but now not so much. Musicians are some knuckleheads, lazy, non-punctual. And the more you think about it, if you take any one characteristic away from Prince, there may have never been a Prince.
