You hit the nail on the head- that's exactly what I was trying to say.

I'm also in the same UTCM boat. I adore that movie so much, I do not understand why it got so much flack. It works so well as film noir and truly a masterpiece. I cannot watch it right now though as I will sob the whole way through.

Google "film noir" and then edit this reply

i stand by what I said... Stylistically and content. "Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and sexual motivations."

Crimes of passion. He was a gigolo with a cynical view of love- "you gonna marry that" "for 50 million dollars I would seriously consider it" love or money and then is murdered in the end. Stylistically, the use of lighting etc. maybe it wasn't consistent throughout but the movie was very much influenced by Film Noir. It's a funny movie, but it's also kind of dark.

But this thread is about GB.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

If Graffiti Bridge did not contain 2 of his best songs I would not like it as much.

Joy in Repetition and The Question of U are among his best songs.

As an album I have not listened to it for more then 10 years. I think his last 3 albums are better (as a whole).

Did anyone here see the original version of this film that they showed to a test audience? The one before a lot of scenes were cut out. I'm only aware of a couple of the deleted scenes from that version of the film and would love to know if anyone can remember other scenes.

You see some of the scenes that weren't in the movie in the trailer such as Prince in a white outfit performing 'Can't stop this feeling I got' and a very short clip of Ingrid saying 'Naughty Boy' (presumably in the same scene that notoriously got cut out of Prince having a five knuckle shuffle under the bed sheets).

Yes, the movie was brutal. Couple of great tracks from the album though.

.

Joy in Repetition is not a Graffiti Bridge song..not to many fans. It is a Crystal Ball song that we had been listening to sincea around '87. It's like the Black Album and it's an '87 albums as well and not a '94 one.

I don't know if we wanted another PR movie. I LOVE UTCM, but I can also tell the parts where Prince took over. For me the majority of the movie was good. BUT it should have had band scenes. Not like in Purple Rain. But at Mary Sharon's birthday party (Day & Night) Jill Jones w/the Revolution should have been playing Mia Bocca. Prince & the Revolution should have been doing New Position / I Wonder U. Since he was a hired musician, that would have been a perfect reason to be at her party. It made no real sense for CHristopher & Tricky to show up at this millionairess house/party, out of the blue.

the musicians could have been his band of gypies. The Family doing High Fashion or Desire. The Girls & Boys video could have easily fit that scene where Girls & Boys was performed. Sheila E A Love Bizarre

All the album songs did not have to be performed but key songs featuring the band and the proteges, background musical performance scenes etc

Great ideas! I always thought that P should have taken more time to develop the movie. He should have combined some tracks from Around the World in a Day as well as Parade songs. Maybe start off the flick with Christopher Tracy in MN performing "America" and "Pop Life". He grows tired of the US and wants to travel with his band to more exotic places like the south of France. After he gets to Europe, money issues cause him and the Rev to have to travel by train. He and the band perform "Around the world in a day" ON TOP of the train!! He gets to the beach and....has to take work as a pianist for hire etc..

I remember after getting ATWIAD my brother and I for some reason just assumed there was going to be some kind of movie to follow. So we were connecting each song to what the scenes would be like.

I hear what you are saying. Would a Color 2 Black n White movie work? The first part in MN doing ATWIAD songs the movie is in color, then as they go 2 France it goes Black n White -Parade

That is a fun idea you gave. So many options.

Oh my god, I was just thinking how cool would it be to open the AWIAD/PARADE mash up film in color and then transition to black and white when he gets to France. America being "new and shiny" while Europe is seen more as "classy and historic". I would open the film with P and the Rev performing America with all the energy of the 85 video shot while making UTCM. You think It's his concert he's performing at, But when America is over he and the band go back to the dressing room to find the actual headliner getting ready to go on stage. The headliner passes by Prince and says something like "Did you get them warmed up for me?" P and the band grow tired of their B list ranking and accept a gig from Isacc Sharon to play at his Daughter's 21st birthday! P and Jerome both fall for Mary. As they try to one-up each other for her affections, hilarious hijinks ensue. I would have Prince and Jerome fake Prince's death To get away from Isaac. At the time, the audience thinks that he is dead Leading to a reveal at the end of the movie that Prince is well and alive and is playing in Miami...

I'm sure that there was The Latest Fashion being performed by the Time. I also remember the Can't stop this feeling and the Hangman scene, there is also Prince at at piano performing the Question of U.

I've been wondering this myself. I hated the movie so much when I saw it I avoided all things GB even the soundtrack. The other day i finally listened to joy in repetition and loved it. So now I'm wondering if i need to see it again maybe it was better than I thought and I was too young to understand and appreciate it.

I just watched it last week. The hangman scene is still in it. Prince spells out "MINE" to which Aura answers "No baby, His" and points to the sky.

It would make more sense that Warners Bros. would have control of the unused/deleted scenes footage.

nod Joy in Repition and Question of U are my favorites. I was really young when I first saw Graffiti Bridge for the first few times as well which is why I bought the movie from Amazon to revisit it once again. The movie still comes off as corny but I don't feel like it's as bad as I thought it was when I was younger.

I remember seeing the previews for GB and getting excited to see it in theaters. After the viewing kinda left me with WTF did I just watch? Decided to get the DVD last year just to have it, I have watched it twice since then. There are some funny parts in it, however most of it is pretty bad. One of my favorite Prince lines in the movie:

"Morris, whatcha doing man as if I don't know, hehehehehe" lmao!!

Could someone take this on? Get their hands on the deleted/unused scenes? Reinsert them? Rework/Reedit it? Repolish it? Is there a "diamond in the rough here"? There could be money in it to entice them, to allow this to be done? And we could get another film of our Purple One?!?
