June – a Sign (of the times) It has been posted before that the song June may be connected to the song ‘ Sign of the times’ In my opinion June is not about cooking pasta. Instead it could be Prince telling us about his illness and leaving this planet soon. This is my explanation of the lyrics which I would like to share with you.
In September, my cousin tried reefer for the very first time Now he's doing horse, it's June Something that has started in the past (in SOTT an addiction) has gotten out of hand and now it might be too late to recover (It’s June). June is ,not ‘just a month’ but in the context of the song it also means ‘(probably) too late’ .
In the song June it’s a pan on the stove which has not paid attention to, so the pasta got burned. The pasta here might be his disease which got worse and cannot be treated properly anymore. It’s already too late. ‘It makes no sense yet but it will soon….’ We did not know at the time.
In the next lines of the song Prince explains why he does not tell people about his disease. ‘Conversation starters come way to hard.‘ The media is too harsh, asking a lot of questions (see lyrics of the song), as if Prince knows all the answers to these questions. ‘ How would he know’ Prince doesn’t want to be seen as a martyr and make the wrong decisions while still alive.
‘You are off somewhere, being free while I starve in the lonesome cold.’ This line makes me sad. He is not feeling completely free (compared to ....) and knows he would die alone.
Then he looks back at his past live. He feels he is born way too late. ‘Musically born in the 70’s’ which is too late to have been able to perform on Woodstock with musicians who inspired him during his life. Sly and Larry. Jimmy and Santana.
'Somebody famous had a birthday today. All I saw was another full moon' It was Queen Elisabeth’s birthday and it was full moon on the day he died. Probably a coincidence. Or was it a Sign of the times? What do you think? This was my opinion of the lyrics of June. Hopefully we know soon what happened soon. I feel sad at the moment. Up to a few weeks ago I thought the song June was about pasta and reminiscing.

I also couldn't make sense of the song until he died. No matter the ©️, Paisley Park "official can never ™️ . He gave that to us verbally on Oprah in 1996. You can't take away from us, corporate. This was posted somewhere and everyone basically dismissed it as not meaning anything and those lovely "too deep" cartoons... Why is it hard to believe that Prince wrote deep lyrics? He's a truly gifted writer who was extremely well read and knew a lot about everything. All I can say is that I really liked the song because I was feeling really bad at the time about a former lover who was basically falling back to some old bad habits. I felt like this song kinda summed the experience up- just waiting for it all to boil over and burn. The "it's June" was an INSTANT call back to SOTT for me. I have other readings of the lyrics but I'm tired of the people around here blasting people for thinking too deeply on stuff. If you just like the music cool- go listen to the music, why are reading people's posts? Anyway I found the song really beautiful, kinda haunting, but comforting at the same time. It really gave me the feels. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Nobody's saying that he didn't write deep lyrics (at times). But insinuating that any of his songs -- in any form -- had to do with his passing away on 4/21 is literally ridiculous. . I'm all for delving into his lyrics for something deeper. Prince performs "People Without" in 1988, and it wasn't until about a week ago that I finally understood when Prince sings "We do this next one in the dark" that he meant -- no one in the band knows what is going on. That's what he meant by "dark" -- not that the song was performed with the lights out. I knew the band didn't know what the hell was going on (you can hear Sheila asking Mico "wtf?" in so many words), I just didn't realize that he didn't mean "dark" as in "lights out." . But if I said that meant that perhaps he said "dark" because he knew he was going to die less than 28 years later on 4/21, most people (I would hope) would sweep me off the site like a bad comedian at the Apollo.
