Prince the "Gay Icon"? Really? Contradicts what fans knew of him these past fifteen years. Also feminizes a socially conscious business-savvy Black Man trying to help his people succeed in various industries... someone that professed to serve God and follow what's in the Bible. I don't think he ever set out to be one. But homophobia was huge when he became a superstar in the 80's. Most people at my high school had questions about his sexual orientation. But they also had questions about his gender and race. I think he basically became a role model for anyone who never wanted a label, in a society full of labels.

So... progressives basically decided he would represent their interests and needs whether he actually stood for what they were or not--or wanted anything to do with them or their agenda or movement. And he had to just shut up and take it... or get trashed when he dared to discuss his TRUE beliefs, as with Claire Hoffman... Sounds about right. [Edited 5/17/16 15:50pm] [Edited 5/17/16 15:50pm]

Who is "feminizing" him? Prince himself played up to that image. It was all part of the show. Was he black or white, was he straight or gay? Even after his conversion to JW, he continued to perform most of the same songs, he continued to wear flashy outfits and wear makeup. He was still Prince, after all. Whatever his beliefs, whether he was anti gay or not, gay people can still appreciate his music and his style. That doesn't make him "less manly".
