Would You Rather Prince Retire Or Just Keep Working Toward His Creative Goals It seems like Prince literally worked himself to death by having so many creative pursuits concurrently. The Piano And A Microphone Tour, the band Prince was producing featuring Adrian Crutchfield, Kirk Johnson and Mononeon, writing and recording new material for another 3RDEYEGIRL album and finally writing his autobiography for release fall 2017. Given that what we know so far-would people rather Prince retire from music altogether and live a life away from it or Prince just follow his artistic muse and let the spirit dictate what he did until the end? 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

Prince did exactly what he wanted to do. If he wanted to slow down then he would have, so once we start talking about whether we would have preferred him to have had a different personality in order to live longer, I think we'd be messing with what made Prince Prince. Nobody I know gun' bite

I agree with that for sure. He had to keep creating. It was his life. He probably should have started the Piano and Mic tour earlier though. May have given him a few extra years. Although sitting still for long periods of time with hip pain is pretty brutal. Perhaps he could have alternated between piano and guitar but no more dancing. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

I just cannot see Prince being retired. I hear that retirement is fun for a while but ultimately becomes boring and boredom would be torture to an intelligent gemini like Prince. I cant see Prince buying a fishing boat and moving to florida. I cant see Prince playing shuffleboard with Dr.Fink and reminiscing about the good ol days. Retirement is for like super old people, not ones who still are young. Prince was 57 but didnt look a day over 36...the man did not age. Prince was never going to slow down no matter who warned him. Prince was never going to conform cause that was not him. We love Prince partly cause he was a fucking badass rebel. Prince definitely wouldnt have been able to take a vacation and enjoy it cause his mind was always racing with new ideas and concepts. Prince without performing would be a fish without water, the survival decreases immediately. Music was Prince's lifeli ne and the key to his soul and if he had been denied of that, he would have died sooner. If Prince had settled down and went somewhere to deal with his health problems, he would have been miserable unless he was writing songs aa therapy while there. Prince lived how he wanted to. Prince did what he wanted to do. Prince was doing what he loved until the moment that he passed away and that is the best way to go out.

How could he retire from music? I don't think he knew anything else. He was music.

There is no retire. All there is the everlong basalt loop of time, etched. i wish i'd never kissed your lips, bearded lady

He was aleady semi-retired. How many shows did he perform in the last 5 or 6 years? He didn't even release an album for a four year period in there. . He just pushed it too hard with the Atlanta shows at the wrong time and then that, with whatever happened afterwards, was a fatal mistake. It's just a reminder that you can do so many things right throughout your life and only takes one bad decision and all is gone. . Although of course Prince's music is not gone and will live forever but he is gone and all is gone for him.

Knowing what we know now,I wish he had retired from live performances 10 years ago.He could have spent this time working on remasters, his autobiography and other projects pertaining to his legacy. It's sad to know that he was doing all these shows while battling severe chronic pain

I agree. We all loved going to a Prince concert, but considering how much pain he was in,I think we could have accepted him retiring from that. The new music would have still flowed.

What does it matter when you have a majority of the Western World loving Prince? He's like the inverse Frank Zappa - not having to program computers towards the end of his life.

See - it wasn't work to him, though. He lived at a recording studio for heaven's sake. Call it what you want, but I don't know of anyone's home that has a sound stage on it, except maybe Lucas or Spielberg. It's not a job when you do what you love. Prince would never retire. The Piano tour wasn't back to back shows like Purple Rain days, or even like the Musicology tour, etc. He definitely slowed it down and took it at his own pace. . I'd grown tired of Prince's music in the last decade. But reading about his finding a new sound on "Baltimore", and then relistening to that track has made me wain for what could have been with that idea. He would have always made music. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Prince would never have retired, playing music is what gave him joy. When you are depressed (not that I am saying he was depressed) or in pain, doing something you love eases that situation. I know when I have my back play up (prolapsed disc) if I am doing something I like, even if the pain is there , it makes it more bearable. but I would say Prince should have maybe stopped all the dancing earlier if he really did have that pain - but I could never imagine him without a guitar in his hand if there were listening ears around. You could see the happiness and joy radiate out of him and I dont think retirement would have given him that joy even if just in a recording studio? He did slow down with the Piano tour - but he should maybe not have done back to back here in Australia not flit all over the place perhaps? it was alot in a short time. I guess we all only have hindsight and not forsight - this is the sad thing. We dont alway make good choices. "Time and Unforseen Circumstances" as they say.......... Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

here's a question for you. When Musicology was going strong, prince said many times that he was retiring from live performing. In hindsight, it would have been better if he did. However, does anyone think he had any intention of actually retiring?

He said many times that he would retire and stop touring, he even said this right after the Parade tour in 86, but i think it was more a way of teasing people like he always did.

He should hace retired in 96, except for an occassional greatest hits tour with The Revolution. The only successful project I can think of since that point was the Musicology greatest hits tour.

Prince wanted to do what he wanted to do. Miss you Prince.

It would have been easier to take his passing if he just retired and wasn't in the spotlight or doing what he was doing at the time of his passing.

Do you think that "Emancipation" should have been his last album or do you think that would have been a bad album to end a career with?

I do not for a minute believe that it would be possible for Prince to stop any of it. I believe he was a slave to the muse and if he didn't let it out it would have driven him crazy, in my not-so-humble opinion, of course... Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

i'm really glad Prince obviously didn't listen to some of you. I don't care how many hits he had on the charts the last few years, he's still one of only two artists I do damn near anything to keep up on. Bruce Springsteen is the other, both those guys were capable of hitting you with peak power at any time and so it was worth following Prince for.

retire! no amount of acclaim was worth his life, imo

The thing is...as you get older, you have to slow down. You gotta listen to your body. You can't be as active as you were 30 years ago.I don't think that Prince ever really learned that lesson.According to reports,he was (still) sleeping very little and sometimes he wouldn't eat He sometmes had to be "reminded" to drink water.
