Anthony Hamilton: Prince was a BIG FAN of me

First, of all people, why him and what he's doin' there? It's not like he could offer anything insightful about Prince.

Second, he said it three times. He's (Prince) become a fan of my music, and later, he's a big fan of me.

Is dude mad?

Starting from 4:31 mark.

U will also see alot of this as well, people claiming all kinds of shit, maybe he liked Anthony or maybe not. IMO alot of these folks just want to bask in Prince's limelight and make some money at the same time! hrmph

Keep Calm & Listen To Prince

I can see that. Anthony Hamilton is soulful, creative a throwback to the ol' school those are things that Prince loved. He loved real music so Anthony Hamilton fits that mold. Maybe he's just lit that someone as awesome and amazing as Prince dug him.

Nobody can say "Prince is a big fan of me" with a straight face. That's a ridiculuous statement. Prince showed support to lots of young artists e.g. A. Keys, Outkast, Common, Macy Gray, Janelle, etc, but none of them would say "Prince was a big fan of me."

Since people are coming out of the woodwork to claim that Prince did this or that or felt like this about them: Prince came by my house and told me he thought that I was cool.

Why does Spike Lee keep talking about lack of black women? Prince cast a white lady as his mom in Purple Rain so what? It's not a autobiography. Appolonia isn't from New Orleans either. haha

Prince liked Latina women in his personal life and Spike Lee just can't handle it.

Prince's former backup singer, Shelbyj worked closely and is friends with Anthony Hamilton, I believed Prince also helped Shelby with her single 'North Carolina', if Zi am not mistaken. So it would not be surprising if Prince was also a fan of Anthony's music as well.

Also, about the Purple Rain movie, many fans were misled and actually thought Prince's real mom was white, because of the Purple Rain movie but his real mom was African-American. I believe the directors of that movie, Purple Rain, had their focus set on attracting a multiracial audience, which is probably why they casted a white woman in the acting role as his mom in the movie. Filmmakers do this type of thing all the time. It seemed to be about bringing in the money by attracting a multiracial audience, and that type of audience reflected the type of fans who were attracted to Prince's music, obviously.

I get Spike Lee's pint though. Back in the 80s, there were a lot of Black musicians/artists who had white females as front women in their vids, Prince apparently was not exclusive to that. Seems it was many of the record execs, controlling that type of image to sell music with other artists, at least until the early to mid 90s, when some Black musicians/artists, started casting women of color in their vids. Seems no one can really say what type of women were Prince's taste, by only judging what he presented on the outside for the the public to see. Spike and Prince were friends over the years. Prince helped Spike, financially, with Spike's Malcolm X movie.

Yes but they became friends later after that. Prince helped to fund Spike Lee's movie 'Malclom X'.

I get where he was coming to this day there is still a lack of representation of AA women in media even more so back then so I do think that Prince as an AA artist had a responsibility which Prince did alot to showcase AA in a different light which is what Prince later let him know. As far as women I think he dated pretty much every race but Latin seemed to be up there. Off the top of my head Anna Fantastic Sheila E Ingrid Chavez and Mayte to name a few.
