We don't know that he never played it. We only know that he never played it for us. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Wrong. He never received it, so he couldn't play it. http://www.thelocal.at/20160503/princes-piano-sits-in-austrian-cellar-awaiting-auctions [Edited 6/24/16 11:27am]

It is remarkable how many modified instruments are available today. In addition to being a musician, it seems like people must have a lot of technical skills too. This is an interesting piano.
"ALPHA pianos, due to the fact that they take the components of classical grand pianos and update them with modern technology, making them suitable for digital performances without sacrificing quality."
According to the story he was to use this piano for a scheduled European tour this year. It was scheduled for last year, but cancelled after the Paris terroist attacks. Prince's estate has directed it be auctioned. "Hold on to your souls y'all. We got a long way to go. Thank you! We love y'all!"
