Are there any Prince songs that were written by other artists?

Despite numerous collaborative projects, most people remember Prince as an autonomous and self-reliant artist. And when it came to collaborating, he was mainly known for writing for other artists rather than others writing for him. Does anyone know if there was any Prince's songs that was written - even partially - by other artists? I can't think of any myself...

"Dirty Mind" was based on a hook by Dr. Fink.

John L Nelson is credited on a few songs, including "Father's Song". The melody of that is the guitar solo for "Computer Blue", so he got a co-write on that (as well as Wendy & Lisa; Fink should have gotten a credit on it). Some of his credits might have been included simply as a way for him to receive monies from record sales.

David Coleman and John have a credit on "Around The World In A Day".

Sandra St. Victor has a credit on "Soul Sanctuary", as well as others.

"Somebody's Somebody" has cowriting credits.

Morris Day wrote "Partyup".

David Z. pretty much wrote 80% of "Kiss", but only got an Associate Producer credit.

W&L cowrote "Mountains", and "Sometimes It Snows In April".

Sheena Easton cowrote "The Arms of Orion"

Susannah got credit for "Starfish and Coffee"

Carole Davis cowrote "Slow Love"

Fink and Eric Leeds cowrote "Beautiful Night"

The Revolution is credited on "America".

Chris Moon is on "Soft and Wet".

"One Of Us" is Joan Osbourne's song.

"A Case Of U", "La La Means I Love U", "I Can't Make U Love Me", "Betcha By Golly Wow" are all cover songs.

Levi Seacer got cowrites on Graffiti Bridge CD, and later stuff. Kirk, Rosie, and Tony, as well as Levi, got credits on D&P and prince records.

"7" has a sample, so those folks got a credit.

The list goes on. Just look in the liner notes of any album.

I knew about the covers and his own close collaboraters' contributions, but I must admit I had completely forgotten about the Sheena Easton one and didn't know anything about Carole Davis and Sandra St Victor. It is great to have an all at a glance list, thank you so much for this! I am preciously keeping his info (in case someone else asks me one day) biggrin

"Do Me Baby" was something Dez was working on

"Solo" the music was someone else's

"America" some of the words were lifted from "America the Beautful"

other covers:

"Everyday is a Winding Road"

"Crimsom and Clover"

"Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Solo's words were by someone else, not the music.

If u're looking for songs co-written by associates there are dozens of them, too many to list, u need to check Princevault.

Do Me Baby was built off of an Andre Cymone riff, not Dez

I think Solo fits in here as the music was done by someone else and Prince put his vocals over the music. it is more than just a co-writer or contributor.

EDIT:

oh i had it backwards: the words were some other person. oh well age... and a little ego.

but still this seems to be more than a case of co-writer.
